Zam15’s Tacoma Build

Just wanted to offer up that you may want to switch out those hose clamps on your 7th injector install. Those *may* hold, but as a professional mechanic, I've seen them fail in high pressure applications too many times. Your fuel pressure there is probably well over 50psi. They do make "fuel line clamps" they are meant for high pressure applications, they provide a much stronger and more uniform clamping action. You should be able to find them at Auto-Zone or wherever. You should be using the style I mention on things like trans cooler installs as well. More for peace of mind than anything. The type you used are adequate for a return line, but anything on the pressure side of your fuel pump should be using the type I described.

^The type I mention.

I'm not a mechanic but I've heard/read the same thing. I'd witch those worm clamps out for the piece of mind if anything.

They give you wormgear clamps because they're the cheapest solution available. Like I said, they would likley be fine but I've seen, first hand, many failures at that point.

worm clamps only works on initial install. once it wears our the rubber hose its clamped on. the worm clamp isnt tight anymore. the spring clamps constantly get tighter as the rubber hose wears. if you noticed all the clamps on a factory toyota are spring clamps (unsure proper name)

btw nice pictures. love the LT. must work great with the charger!!

^ Spring clamp is the correct term, but those are no good for high pressure applications. You'll notice they're not on anything that is going to be under substantial pressure, mostly just vacuum lines and fluid return lines that are not under pressure, your rad (which also commonly uses spring clamps) is only under 15psi or so. Your fuel system is under 30-60psi, or more in some applications. Gear clamps work great in those applications too, and I would never reuse a spring clamp, but would readily reuse a worm gear clamp. Our shop has a policy that any spring clamp removed gets replaced with a gear clamp on reassembly. We've seen too many fatigue over time and fail when reinstalled. Or they just rust and break in half.

Truck looks awesome and I loved reading the build, just hate to see it go up in smoke because of a .80c clamp.

See my last post. 15psi is not high pressure. They also have an aggressive barb, and spring clamps only really clamp well the first time. They are not a high pressure clamp.

Advice taken, just picked up several and they will be going on shortly. Surprised but the ones I purchased are actually made in Sweden, must be a sign from my ancestors. Comforting feeling knowing that they are not made in China.

Also looking at picking up a rear axle for the truck, found a used one for a decent price with a majority of the features I was looking for, would be a a big step up in strength. Would just need to add an ARB locker. I'll likely miss the e-locker however.
Trussed, 4.88 Gears, Ford 9 Diff, 35 Spline Axles, Disc Brakes. Will have to get some significant fab work done to the truck to install it but I was planning on that anyways.
Was planning on a fully fabricated axle such as diamond but this should work. I am planning on 35" tires so I am not sure if the 4.88s will work or if it would be worth it to step up to 5.29s. Sticking with the 4.88s would save me some cash.

Good to go! The size I received also fit several other connections so everything should be fully locked down now. Always trying to keep the rig as safe and reliable as possible. Actually looks a little cleaner now.

Well I pulled the trigger. Picked up a Ford 9" rear end to complete the build. This thing would cost well over 3K to have Currie build me a new one but I got a deal on this unit. Even have the original invoice.

Extreme Duty Housing
Race Case
Equal length 35 spline extreme duty tapered large bearing axles
Fully Trussed
66" WMS
4.88 Gears
Explorer Disc Brakes w/parking brake

:smiley_drive:

Other than a little surface rust and dirt she should clean up nicely. Will be a while until I can have it installed due to the cost and amount of work required but this is another big step forward! :wings:

I have been watching a build by IFS4LIFE over at Tacoma World that may end up being a kit, looks like everything would bolt up to the axle and truck without much issue. Might take some work to adapt to a double cab. This may be the rout I go or at least something similar. Really like the product so far. :sombrero:

I don't think he will be making a kit. Doesn't work for ballistic anymore.

But still great ideas. I'm thinking something similar too
