You hear the whip cracking? Get on it.... Looking good. The weekend weather is supposed to be awesome.

Thanks for check out the thread. It seems like I've been running in quicksand for weeks now. I know this has been a bit boring for everyone checking this out...but it feels like everyday I need to post pictures to see some progress.

Man I'm hitting it as hard as I can. I got side tracked today trying to get stuff for the trip. I got a chair and a army cot from my father's house. I also got some firewood.

I did get the my ladder started. It was a deer stand that I was working on. I decided to utilize it for the RTT project.
I also welded the platform hinges. I think that the Ladder is strong enough to support the cantilevered 1/2 of the RTT. I will be adding bracing kickers that bolt back to the trailer for added security.

Here's where I am at tonite.

BTW: I also took your edvice and welded some flat bar on the bottom where the hinged platform meet for extra support.

Cool deal, did the flat stock help on the hinge side? I would think it could only go so far before it stops on the steel, which is what you need.

Just gonna not worry about the cover until after the weekend? Strap it down, and it should be ok.

How much firewood did you get? Charles has offered to let us get some firewood from his place if we need it.

I have some here, but?

Throw some blocks of finished wood in to level the ladder...you still have a couple of more days . Great progress, looking good!

Love the raised area over the bed of the trailer...makes great sense.:smiley_drive:

Good point Pat! I always carry a few short pieces of 2x4. You never know.

Also, I almost forgot this on my shakedown run, but you may want to bring a set of jackstands for the rear of the trailer... Mama wont be happy if the trailer tilts up if she rolls over during the night!

You can see my redneck engineering on the rear corner here. I have since fabbed adjustable legs, but this worked in a pinch. Also, wheel chocks are your friend!

I'm not really sure but it seems to help keep the platform level and not sagging at all in the splice. I might end up beefing up the hinges on the platform. After looking at them for a while I've been thinking They could be heavier. Of course I might be going overboard again.

I'll know more after a good shakedown run.

I am thinking of getting this canvas tarp from tractor supply to cover it with. I don't want anything flying off on the highway. The tarp has rustproof grommets approximately 2 to 3 feet apart and in each corner. I figured I can use some strapping with a ratchet to pull it tight and ratchet strap it a couple of times to keep the air from snatching it off. I still have so much left to do I was going do that last.

Here's what I'm looking at using:

I got a little bit. It's definately not as much as I brought last time. I messed around and waited until the last minute to ask for some. If you can you might want to bring some. Of course we don't have a large group so we don't have to make the fire as big. Also the wood I have is green. It was just cut yesterday.

Thanks. I thought about bringing some wood for the ladder. I still have to cut it and make the splice up. I went by Home Depot this morning and got parts.

I want to make or buy tool boxes to mount on the outside of the cage area on phase III I still have a few more pieces of steel to put on the cage. I want to brace it up really strong. I might even skin it with 16 ga. metal. I've been thinking about what to do for phase III. Everytime I go camping with it I envision something else that would be cool to add.

It's good enough for this shakedown run, hopefully.

Great idea. I have a small set I can bring for that. Hey man your engineering is no where near as backwoods~rednecky as mine. When I look at my trailer I see so many hokey things it's not even funny.

I do love my trailer though...even with all the imperfections it's really a solid little trailer that will haul more than my JEEP could pull.

Ok... So I got the Ladder attached. I got the kicker braces to the trailer done. I mounted the tent and put the poles in it. I still have a small amount of work left.

Here's pictures of where I am as of a few minutes ago.

So The wifey, daughter and I all were up in the tent at one time. It was comfy with us all in it.

It's rock solid. You could land an airplane on it.

I'm pretty happy with the results so far. It's a wonky project and not really worthy of being in this forum with all the great builds.. But I loves my wonky trailer.:victory::ylsmoke:

Thanks... I've been working under serious budget constraints. I feel pretty good about the results. I still have to smooth out the rough edges but I have no time until after the trip.

yup, most excellent build.!!

Thanks:)

Dude.. I'm impressed.. I wouldn't have thought it would have came together that quick..

I've been working hard to meet the deadline. I will be taking it to the mountains this weekend for a camping trip. I'm apprehensive as I haven't really tested it or any of the new camping equipment I bought. I hope that everything works properly and it's a success... wish me luck.

Zelix, it's coming out great! You've balanced what criteria are important to you, more time than money and made it work.

As I like to say, "Home-Built, No place for Wimps!" :sombrero:

Ain't heard anything in a few days..

So either the initial testing is either going well and you're still camping or the entire thing fell in and killed all inside..

HAHAHA Sorry I haven't updated this.

Well I still have more to do on the trailer. I did manage to set up the tent and sleep overnite in it. I have to get a mattress that's for sure. It held up to me, the wife & daughter sleeping in it. It's really stout. Those knee braces I added back to the trailer make it rock solid.

I want to finish up, prep and paint it all now. I just have to get the time, cash & energy to do it.

Here's a pict of where I left off at:

Update: I'm posting this to keep my project 'documented' as I work toward completion. I haven't changed much on the trailer so far. I have gotten some stuff to organize my gear. My father hooked me up with some sweet waterproof cases. He also gave me a huge ice chest which fit perfectly in the trailer. I'm working to get the gear packed up neatly.

I also tried to make some of those window tent pole thingys. I just bent some 3/16" dia. steel.

I went to local pawn shops with my father just out of boredom. I found a almost new Coleman 425. I walked away with it for $18. I tried it out by making some coffee. It works great.

I heard the forecast called for rain. I left the tent up to see if it leaks at all. Man it was nice and dry. I am so happy with this project so far.

New things I am working on:
I am going to try to build a small box to haul firewood on the front.
Propane cylinder holders on the sides of the trailer.

I would love to have these done by the Country Fried Weekend.
