I see the first few pics are from Uwharrie, where were the rest taken? Looks like you had a good time.

The rest were the second part of "R" road, then afterwards continued up toward Damascus VA. We had planned on going on into Scott County VA, but Friday night about 11:30 my brother called and asked if I wanted to go up to "R" instead.

I had thought about PM'ing the previous group but knew with such short notice it would be futile.

Last week, I swapped from the 33x10.5r15s to 255/85r16s and back to the steelies I had on it from
the beginning. I decided to make a last minute run to George Washington National Forest for a little
off highway recreation, and camping. The trip was thoroughly enjoyed, and I will be going back.

This is pretty much exactly what i want to do to my 86 extra cab with the 255/85s and same black steelies. Those are the tacoma spare tire wheels right?

The 4 on the ground were from a first gen tundra 2wd that had these with wheel covers on them. The solar is one of the tacoma spare wheels though.

nice pictures. are those power lines? i driven near some before on a trail and they buzz like crazy. i think it also gave me a headach.. it was alot of power lines and the trail is mainly for service trucks

Thanks. Yeah, they crossed the National Forest and happened to create a beautiful opening for an overlook. They had a very noticeable buzz and crackle going on. I definitely didn't like the idea of hanging out under them very long.

I thoroughly enjoy seeing and reading about your 4runner. How do you like the 255's and steelies compared to the 33's? I am considering going to 255/85/16's on my 84, but I would be dropping down from 35's. Does your truck handle differently? Can you feel a difference on the road? I guess the 255's are actually taller on your truck than the 33's, right?

Looks great!

I am very pleased with the 255s. They are a little taller, and thinner.

I would make the swap again in a heartbeat. I like the handling better with the 255s. My guess is due to the E load range construction.

I've also started another add-on for my 4runner. There have been times where I just needed more room. Two adults, one 4 year daughter, A dog, and all out camping gear gets to be a little crowded. I had thought about adding a roof, and had the opportunity to pick up a trailer that was already a good base.

A little bit of cleaning, some paint, and voila. Looks like it was meant to be. I'll be building some tube, and sheet metal fenders, adding some external storage areas, and a lid for a future roof top tent.

Thanks for the comparison shots. I will probably swap my 255's from my Tacoma over to the 4runner and see what it looks like and drives like.

The trailer looks perfect behind your truck! Let me know when you are ready to buy a rooftop tent for it.

Thanks, I will. Im thinking a trail clean-up run on "R" road might be a good break in procedure for it.

Hows the ride quality with the load range e tires on the 255s compared to the 33x15 with load range c? this is the only thing that keeps me away from going to 255s and 16" rim is because it is going to be load range e and i dont want to loose ride quality. Its probably a little better for you since you have a 4runner but i have and 86 extra cab and its a little lighter than the 4runner. Thanks

The ride has not been sacrificed with the install of the 255s. I drive 100 miles a day, and honestly can't tell much difference in the ride quality of the two. They will be what stays on it unless I swap to 17s at some point.
