I used to have a shadyboy on my VW camper and I keep thinking I should get 1 for my FJC...thanks for the pics...I will order mine soon.
I liked the reflective one, it really did the trick here in Az

I want to say $275 but $325 shipped sounds right. I wanted an awning and stumbled upon a vw site and I looked and looked and figured the mounts could be modded to fit my yakima cross bars. It's super clean in its' aluminum case, with minimal weight addition. I love it, 1/2 what the others awning go for but of course not made out of the heavy canvas either.

My awning is self supported, meaning no poles or guide lines. It's about 7' wide. Made of Hypalon, the same material river rafts are made of. Very durable and waterproof. Folds up into a small package and sets up in about 1 minute.

Hannibal makes one like that too. Great units.

I'm not sure if mine is an old Hannibal or if the previous owner had it made. It seems it would be pretty easy to make one. I cant weld aluminum but I could probably make one out of 3/4" square tubing and it would still be pretty light and strong.

Kevin, how is yours in Saline-flavor wind? Do you have to take it down when things start blowing around?

Trevor,

I was out there last month during some pretty high winds. It gets a little noisy but it is well built and it's not going anywhere. Sometimes I roll it up at night because I sleep in the back of my truck and if it's really windy i dont want the flapping noise. Other than that it is pretty bomber.

Trevor,

After looking at the pictures I am sure mine is an older Hannibal. Looks exactly the same except for the awning material. Hardware is spot on. I think I like the material on mine even better, very robust.

Hrrrmmmmmmm Lets see some better pictures of those out rigger arms. They look like something I could make. :)

Here are a few close ups of mine.
Sorry both the same picture, ones just larger.

Thanks. Even more simple then I thought. I was thinking it was hinged part way up the arm.

Have to look around the shop and see what I have in thin wall steel. :)

Im using a Shady boy awning out of Canada.
I was thinking of making my own, but the ShadyBoy looks great!

I think you mentioned in one thread that you had to modify the mounting brackets. Did you have to bend them, or just drill new holes?

I just bought and installed a Shady Boy awning. I have a report, with lots of photos, on my Tacoma thread. (Link Here)

It is cheaper to order the awning straight from Canada.

I worked with Wolfgang, who is the designer. He was very helpful.
