But eventually, we'll all end up in hover-chairs, so doesn't matter.

My transfer case might be shifted by a button, but unless I become paralyzed from the neck down, I will not live on a hover chair. The caloric burn from either activity (shifting a lever versus pressing that button) will not show a statistical difference. The action of pulling a lever won't offset that Biggie Fries, Biggie Coke and triple cheeseburger one just downed. ;)

Funny, I was surfing around and found out that, while we are pining away for a HiLux, the Aussies were pining away for Tundras.

I have buddy who lives in OZ, said he would love to have a Tundra, but the steering conversion just cost too much. He really isn't impressed with the HiLux either...said his brother's new Ford Ranger is awfully nice. Blows the HiLux out of the water.

The Tundra is a serious truck. Too bad theyre just amazingly huge. As for blowing the Hilux out of the water, just about everything is doing that. The new Amarok is winning head to heads easily. Canada is getting them. Central America is getting them. We are not. Its too bad too.

Say what now?

We usually get the same sucky vehicle selections as the Yanks.

I see we are getting a new A3 sedan... still would have preferred a hot A1 for my wife.

Huh? We are? With the TDi too? Hmm.... maybe Chevy will put a diesel in the next Canyon / Colorado to compete against it... Might make sense. I hear the Cruze is getting a diesel for NA for 2013...

I don't think we'll ever see a return to simple options lists. The options is where the car companies are making their money... selling you crap nobody would buy if they had a real choice...

Yes, thats the word as of June 1st. Theyve been talking to VWoC and their marketing wing about the truck there. You all have gotten different versions of VWs before like the City Golf.

The problem is none of this new stuff from any manufacture works off road....

I drive off road with a pool of vehicles from all manufactures...every year stuff gets worse..

ball joints only last 40,000km (with stock "bumpers" without winches!)

dial 4x4 systems not engaging when it counts (always -20 or lower in snow) (manual hubs and direct shifters never have let me down be it old Toyota or a NP205 domestic)

Air bags designed to sell new cars for small accidents

ABS systems suck in snow and loose surface and costs of $1000s for a new master cylinder

Need for a leveling kit when you drive off the dealer lot (how hard is it to make a vehicle level?)

upwards of 70 ECU that will fail (look at any 15 year old vehicle that capacitors are failing on boards)

Entire system wired together so you cannot change the radio.

Unserviceable UNIT bearing front hubs...putting the bearings 2 inches apart.

New diesels that shut down if emissions problem.

YOU HAVE A CHOICE...take your $35-50,000 to a custom shop out of the Rust belt...have a real truck built with some nice seats and rugs...with a real frame, real axles, simple drive train...and never look back....Build the FJ45 or FJ55 of your dreams and stop buying the **** they make today...

Today I moved rocks of the road for my 2012 work truck that any stock 4x4 five years ago would have cleared no problem....

I pretty much agree with all that and this is why I am building my own "custom" overland truck and never looking back! I sold my 04 Toyota for an old 88 FJ62 and even though the truck is not built yet I do not regret it one bit!

You can with the domestics, sadly manual transmissions are all but gone though...can only get a manny on the Dodge Cummins model.

There is a work truck model Tundra, but it still is rather "fluffy", has power windows, dial transfer case, auto hubs, and such...they just throw down a vinyl floor and call
it a "work truck". Not much of a stripper basic model.
