Really? I was under the impression that anything that wasn't a Land Cruiser was shunned by most Cruiser people?
:hehe:
I used to think that then I was shocked to learn that there were a couple Cruiser guys that actually liked my Tacoma.

My buddy with a 60 likes my Tacoma more than his, was impressed, as mine has more power, better fuel economy, rides nicer. He refuses to give up the 60...because it looks cooler.

The 23/33 figures are with 5 speed auto tranny and supposedly better with the 8 speed. The biggest challenge is the price tag, 35 to 40k, ok. However if they make you buy a overland edition at 52k, then that would not be cool.

Problem with diesel is that in the end, the math doesnt work out a lot of the time. 23/33 is a good result for an SUV but not at a price such as the above. A diesel in a 4Runner or Tacoma would be cool but thats not the real answer. Just throwing a diesel in it is not really an actual solution.

Although, I was a bit surprised that Toyota went back to manual t-case levers in the 4Runners.

So, poking around at Toyota, I found for 2013, 4Runner SR5's went BACK to an electric transfer case dial. Lame. Point being, don't blame Toyota for not bringing over all of the cool rigs here. Us dumb, lazy Americans can't even handle a manual t-case lever, much less diesel, SFA, etc.

Thankfully, the Trail Edition retains the manual lever.

I have never once had to wait for my electric dial on my 2005 Tacoma to engage my 4x4...it works...just like the electric diff lockers on my LC...they work also...

I like my TV remote too...

I pretty much knew the answer before I asked, did it more to see if I would get an answer more than anything.

Dear Mr. ******,

We appreciate your interest in the Toyota Hilux.

We apologize; Toyota has not announced intentions offer the Hilux for sale in the United States at this time, and we do not have information on any future plans to do so. Toyota is aware of public interest in diesel engines and more compact pickups, and we will continue to monitor market conditions to identify potential opportunities to offer our customers vehicles equipped with the features that they seek. Your email will be made available for review by the appropriate departments, and will aid us in planning future products to better serve your driving needs.

If you would like to receive email notifications from Toyota regarding news or updated models, please feel free to subscribe by visiting http://access.toyota.com/.

If we can be of further assistance, please feel free to contact us at http://www.toyota.com/help/.

Sincerely,

Darren Ree

...because it looks cooler.

It's the only reason I have a 60 I am about to pour money into and an 80 that I can't seem to give up...cool points...neither gets used as much as my trusty tacoma...the tacoma is simply better at everything that I use it for...There is absolutely no comparison...
I have 70 fever every once in a while...even thought about sending my 60 off to Proffitts for one of those cool bodies they imported...but then I came to my senses and thought I would just wait to see what the 2014 tacoma engine options will be...:)

jim: European manufacturers will still generally build to order, but the Japanese tend to package everything. To get the option you want, you need to get three you don't want.

In Japan, you can still tick off options individually. Most Toyotas here are ex-Japan imports, so they occasionally have weird options (factory cooler and warmer boxes in a 100 series? coffeemaker in a 200 diesel?).

I have been reading the Jeep section on here, the more I read about JKU's the more I want one...

...and since Toyota won't build a retro 4D FJ40, hmmm.

Not doubting your truck works fine. But the chances of it failing are greater. Just like my old 4Runner. Must have been a vacuum leak somewhere, but couldn't find it. Led to sporadic 4WD operation. One time in 6-inch mud that almost got me stuck.

TV remotes fail more often than fingers, too.

I almost bought a 60, then I drove my buddy's 60, reminded me of my anemic '85 4Runner I had, only slightly bigger with worse gas mileage.

Would be nice if the Taco received that 270 horse DI engine.

True enough:)

I did think it was nice that the 5th gen 4runners were getting the manual transfercase lever...I remember telling my dad as he was shopping for a new 4runner because I thought it was a unique feature and he said..."why would I want that"...

For a family fun vehicle, I just don't think you can top a JKU 4DR with a drop top. Which brings back up another point that's been brought up a million times since 2007--how much bigger of a hit would the FJC been if it had a soft/hardtop? There is obviously a market for that here, which is confusing why Toyota decided a faux-hardtop was a better idea.

Is there a difference? Be realistic here and admit that there isnt. I dont hear anyone complaining about us "dumb, lazy Americans" not being able to handle cable actuated lockers instead of electric ones on Toyota products. Your nit picking is whats lame. I like switches. Give me a switch located next to the steering wheel over having to let og of the wheel and grab a lever. But then again, Im obviously "lazy"...
