Yep. Limb risers. Off the windshield & above the roof rack, etc.
We will be announcing the signup information much earlier for next year's event so that it will be easier for everyone to plan and register. There will ne a new UP Overland website up soon that will have updates and details on it.
If anyone has any suggestions or feedback for next year's event it would be great to hear them. We've already begun planning and have some exciting new ideas that we are trying to add to the trip. I will give a headsup when the site is launched. Hola de Chile! Lots of snow, heavy winds and an avalanche that took out the road below us. It's been interesting so far!
Some thoughts which we had discussed were to possibly move the trip up a week. That would likely allow those of us with spouses in the educational fields to attend since it would be before school starts.
Camping by water / beach is just plain cool whenever possible.
Maybe we could run the south or west side of the UP? If the winds are up out of the south at that time there there will likely be be surf on the south side.
Just watch, one day there will be like 3 optional legs creating a complete circle around the UP.

I think it was mentioned earlier (maybe even by me) to go west towards the Porkies. There is downed WWII bomber in there and I guess it is only about a mile hike to it but don't count on that as a sure thing. I can find out more though.
Maybe a night trip to the infamous Paulding lights?
Edit: Found this very informative website about the crash.

Wow, very cool site. That would be neat to see.
My 4runner gets the same way when I wheel. The engine bay gets packed with mud and gunk. The Hummer does a good job of keeping that stuff out. It's supposed to be able to cross 2' deep water stock so I'm thinking they probably tried to keep as much out of the engine bay as they could.
Next time we wheel definitely take a look. I spent about 2 hours under the Hummer, then the 4runner and back checking out the differences. I found it pretty interesting. I would not be a bit surprised if GM did the same when they started beafing up the Colorado/Canyon chassis for the H3.

there's only one vehicle designed to handle unlimited water crossings at any depth.
and it has wings.
I'm in for the mega-route next year as well. Kayak coming along too.
Interesting. My Jeep was filthy underhood, absolutely filthy. I hosed it down, but that muddy stuff doesn't rinse off, so I'll have to hose-and-scrub at some point...
Incidentally, it looks like I got a fair bit of water into my OEM air filter housing. I can't figure exactly when that would have happened, but I didn't have that problem with the cold air intake I had last year. Anyway, a snorkel might end up being in order at some point...
Kristian - pencil Anna and I in for next year. If we need/want any educational research done on any of the areas we're going to be traveling, we would be more than willing to put something together. We're aiming to do a week+ for next year, too, so if we had a Saturday-through-next-week-Sunday megaroute, that would be very worthwhile.
