Toyota axles in a Jeep WJ

Well, the discussion may all be for naught....0331 ring a bell?

    Add one more Cherokee...

Tongue in cheek comment really... There are a disproportionately high number of 2001 heads that tend to crack on the XJs, compared to other years. Batch # is 0331. When you look at the total number of XJs produced that year, the number of heads from that casting lot is not a very high ratio...

    Add one more Cherokee...

Nice find. I like the color, wheels, t-case and axle...29 spliner! Have you checked the head casting number yet?

Toyota axles in a Jeep WJ

You statement there really got me thinking. It was difficult enough to find a radiator when mine blew in Death Valley, other parts are just as failure prone and hard to find outside of a dealership. If I got a LC, I'd do a diesel swap of some kind, I can't live with the 10mpg that they...

    Diesel FJ40 - Anyone here?

Very cool...did not actually know that. I love the pizza cutters too, and agreed, that 42 is nice!

Toyota axles in a Jeep WJ

I actually started doing this about a month ago. I got tired of always hunting for tool sizes, quantities, etc. I dunno...maybe a I just need to quit beating around the bush and get me a 60/62...

Toyota axles in a Jeep WJ

Changing the rear axle will take the same amount of fab work no matter what type of axle I go with. I'll still need to add a bridge for the UCA mount, and adapt the brakes. The front is what I am more concerned about No matter what I do, I want to avoid custom axle shaft length, milling out...

Toyota axles in a Jeep WJ

http://home.4x4wire.com/erik/diffs/ The DL was what I was worrying about. I don't believe there wil be enough clearance to the oilpan if I use an 80 axle. Off the top of your head, do you know the WMS-WMS of a 80 front verus a 60 front? I'm somewhat familiar with older Toy axles, and know...

Toyota axles in a Jeep WJ

Once upon a time, I swapped in a 5 lug Taco axle under my '95 XJ; I'm talking rear axle here. I'd like to do the same to my WJ, and have not been looking at Taco axles again, but possibly 80 or 60 series axles. I'm not too concerned about the rear axle this time either, but have been...

    AT Comanche upgrades

The RE kit uses braces that run from the drop brackets, all the way back to the transfer case cross member. The only kit that is stronger IMO(nothing technical to back that up) is the Skyjacker subframe, but that is more of a mid-arm kit.

    Diesel FJ40 - Anyone here?

I've seen this vehicle around my neighborhood a few times, and finally snapped some pics of it. I left a card on it with the ExPo site, so maybe they'll find their way here.

Even with the braces that are supplied with an RE kit?

    WJ lift question...

Whether it is a spacer or a new coil, any type of lift pre-droops the CAs, even with the use of adjustable, stock location arms. Until you start dealing with control arm drop brackets (available for the XJ and ZJ) or Long arms, the stock geometry, using stock locations is never the same once a...

    WJ lift question...

I'd change your choice of the work "kit" to "system". All too often, kits do not address the issues you have stated, and in fact, you need several "kits" to form a marginal "system". Rarely do proprietary products function complementary to other stand alone products. Pucks on coils are plenty...

    Behold...my home-made Engel fridge slide!

Thank you. The 1/2" angle is welded to the 3/4" angle. I havent noticed the angle protrusions to be an issue, but then again, I'm used to it. I think I might take a straight edge to the set-up to see how far they actually stick out.

    WJ lift question...

I would say that is a good idea. Unless you need to clear some big tires for rock crawling, or need to impress some local chicas at the mall, I'd skip that big a lift....period.

    Nederland/ Indian Peaks Wilderness, CO

Very cool pictures and trip. That casino is being built by the company I used to work for, Hensel Phelps Construction Company. The 4D modeling software they used for the precon of this project is amazing. They've essentially removed a mountain and built a casino.

    Behold...my home-made Engel fridge slide!

Went to HD today and finally bought some "Lashing Straps" to hold down the fridge to the slide. $8 for (2) 1" wide x 8' long straps. I have my rough idea for a false floor in my head, so that will be my next project for the rear of the WJ. Enjoy, yet again! G
