    Australian touring vehicle

I knew i had pics somewhere There were like driving a limosine, very smooth. It was possibly due to the fact that they were origionally designed for around 3 ton, we had them pulling around 7-7.5t, don't tell anyone.......

Michelins have always looked after me.... I swear by them, I'm sure my brother uses them on his compactors on the island.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that the tyre the army use on the LAV's? You'd be squeezing them onto an OKA, Great for a "small" Unimog though!!

I seem to remember the Australian Getaway 4x4 Fraser island buses trialing the 19.5" on Canters. They sank one from memory, and removed them as a result. They were a full bodied canter done by NC&B. Weird looking things... I love the look of the new OKA's with the 19.5s, They were alright on...

Signed contract today for new FG

Not true Alan, they do quick release turntables and tippers on the decent size stuff, I'm sure it would be easy to adapt for smaller size.

They are as solid as a house brick on Corries, I love the OKA, I'm waiting for Warnsie to get his new one so i can have a look at it in Cairns. The only vehicle i've found more comfortable is the six wheeler Toyota, but they will tend to show thier age more than the OKA.

    Cooling the cab

For the sake of Outback Jack only, RedDOT pulled out of Australia because they couldn't sell enough. Head down to your nearest A/C guy and ask about them, Very popular in the mine sites, very popular with engineer on Cape York....

Not radical at all mate, Go the larger condenser on the roof and then you can fit another evap. in the cab, like that one from the tarago!!!

I agree with you there Bluewater, the OKA certainly has made some enemies out there. But they have made alot of dedicated followers as well, another Polariser, like land rover. As a diesel fitter, i can honestly say that there are other vehicles around that i would rather work on, but i do love...

    pivoting frames and mounting campers

Europeans don't use 4mm mild steel for chassis rails either!!! Umimogs claim about 12" travel on chassis twist alone.

Fuso FG not made for off-road

Quote: I've seen this done, and taking advantage of the goose neck, by running a straight line from the top of the goose neck through to the rear end of the chassis. This will give alot of room to place a rear trunion mounted above the rear axle (most obvious stress point) with the pivot axis...

Fuso FG not made for off-road

From my understanding, the goose neck is what increases stress, what is needed is to take the travel from point of rotation an reduce it by moving the point of rotation to somewhere where less stress will be incurred. I've seen this done, and taking advantage of the goose neck, by running a...

Fuso FG not made for off-road

There are several 3 point mounted fire tenders on the rear of dual cab fg637s. These were made by Giblins motor bodies out of Aircraft grade Aluminium, hence the need for the 3 point mounts. Brass trunions were used and it was a great success. Mind you, Giblin was building 4wd bus bodies before...

Fuso FG not made for off-road

Ours lasted until 1/2 way through the second season, mind you the coorugations are horrendus at times on the Cape. it's the pissy 4mm chassis, if they made it a 6mm, it would be better, but also tare more. If they made it out of spring steel, it would last longer, but then it would cost more...

    Is this a silly idea

Hey Jack, you're an ideas man. Sleepers are great, all glass, no rust and they look ok, i'll see if a mate of mine can do up a photoshop image for you. Roof top camper, another great idea! not too much capital outlay, and they work well, the ones I've seen on Cape York are very easy, and user...
