I made a similar mount for my gas can on my Xterra. I have the Calmini rear bumper (POS btw). I mounted the can on a swing arm so you can swing it out of the way and then open the tire carrier. It allows the can to clear the side of the X.

Knock on wood, my 6.0L has had no problems other than the turbo needing to be cleaned. I'm at 57,000 miles.

Empty 9,450lbs. Loaded for a 2 week trip, usually close to 11,000lbs. Fatty!

A large portion of SMB 4x4 owners have made the switch to E range tires for the added capacity and stiffer sidewalls. Keep in mind though that most of the SMB's out there are 9000 to 11000lbs. You could probably get away with D range with your build.

When it's very cold they do tend to be a bit stiff. I still haven't had any issues though.
