What shocks are you guys running on your Classics?

Koni 8240SPX. Absolutely amazing. You can drive at rally speeds on gravel and dirt. Lifetime warranty. I've had stock, Bilstein and OME and they are all crap in comparison.

How is a current MK III offroad?

The traction control is pretty amazing. Wheel travel, size, weight and no room for decent tires limits what they can do...

    Honestly ...

There is nothing that you cannot do yourself on a D1. They are very simple, straightforward and easy to work on. Keep the fluids changed and clean. It is a 1961 designed American V8, it likes having its oil changed often. Figure out how to bring in parts cheap from the UK and you will find...

    Honestly ...

As you have stated, it all depends on the specific vehicle. You are talking about buying a 14+ year old vehicle.... As with any brand, its history matters more than anything. Taken car of, they are very reliable. They like going off road. They get grumpy when forced to drive on the road.

    Himalaya 4x4 Defender 110's

That is NOT what I said. Why is it necessary for everyone on the internet to add words that were not written and read things into statements? It is such a simple point. Let's say I was in the market for a high end Defender... I live in Canada and would look around for companys that can...

    Himalaya 4x4 Defender 110's

Oh good lord. I never said anything negative about the business. I know nothing about it... I said two simple things. Do not try and put words in my mouth please. 1) He will not get business with the website without at least stating what country he is in. Maybe he does not want business...

    Himalaya 4x4 Defender 110's

Not putting down the website. I just see no point to it. His response does more to damage his business reputation than anything written in this thread by anyone else.

    An expedition truck on portals...

The filter heater is all you need until it gets "bad". If it is "bad" the whole trucking industry is shut down so that would not be very normal. When gelling starts, you get crystals in the fuel that get stuck at the filter.

    Himalaya 4x4 Defender 110's

OK, but who is going to seriously look at buying an expensive truck when you do not even now what continent the trucks are on? The first thing the "about: page should say, is we are a small company in ........ I can't imagine how he expects the website to draw business.

That is great. I had not seen a TD5 filter before. Ah, here: http://www.tbfthompson.com/IMAGES/FuelManagerCrossRef.pdf FM-10 reverse flow, 5 micron, 5".

    An expedition truck on portals...

If things are like that picture, I would suggest installing a filter heater. That will stop those gelling problems. As said above, it is never a problem here as we know winter.... I would suggest the Standadyne FM-100 with a 6" 2 micron filter and the heater that inserts in the middle. It...

    classic range rover diesel conversion

I would be careful using that as fuel. Motor oil has additives that do not burn. These will buildup on the injectors and in the engine over time.

    An expedition truck on portals...

Duratracs..... Most people that I know have switched to using these on their trucks in the winter. They are as good as a mid level car winter tire on ice and hard pack. Good in deep snow, work well off road and wear fairly well. The roads here are snow and ice covered for 6 months. Unless...

    An expedition truck on portals...

Do they really carry that size? Can't see it on any of the Nokian pages. What are your plans? These are decent for on road, hard packed use. Not that great in deeper snow or off road. I know quite a few that have used them. Duratracs seem like the nicest compromise tire that are winter...
