The 2002-06 5-cylinder T1Ns routinely get better than 20 US mpg. When the 2007 V6 NCV3s came out, their fuel economy was as much as 5 mpg lower, with a consistent 20+ mpg becoming much rarer. Many view this year's NAFTA release of the 4-cylinder diesel with the 7-speed as an attempt to get back...
There are quite a few posts about snow/ice use on the Sprinter Source, with the general consensus being that the van is pretty workable if you have winter tires and some weight over the back. Stock tires and/or an empty truck . . . not so good. 4WD will make it easier for sure.
FWIW, chains...
This matches my experience as well.
I consider having this sort of communication to make a big difference in how safe you are and how secure you feel when headed into an isolated area. I highly recommend it, or something equivalent. It's not a fail-safe device to excuse stupid decisionmaking...
Give it up, Ken. The gentleman has had his Sprinter for almost six full months now, which is clearly all one needs.
I trust the original poster can evaluate all the information here and make his own decisions.
You are correct, sir. I am a ************** and have no idea what I am talking about. After a decade of ownership, it's amazing I could be so misguided.
You can search around for some other threads on which I've written about this, but the short take on the story is that the Sprinters have, until just now, been the only US/Canada van you could stand up in. It is also pretty well built and had some features, like good ground clearance, that kept...
Ah ha; there's our problem. Four-wheeling versus truck camping.
I'm not looking to drive my Sprinter on a "trail." If issues of suspension flex and articulation routinely enter into your consciousness, the Sprinter would not be an good vehicle. I am personally fortunate to have other vehicles...
A fine question, but two things . . . The "send to Germany" investigation was early 2005, when I bought my first Sprinter. Whitefeather didn't exist, and even Salem-Kroger didn't do the conversions then.
And there are more detailed threads about it here but, briefly, the...
Bruno, or anyone who knows the answer . . . What is the purpose of the steel construction shown on the rear exterior of the cabin in this picture? Thanks.
You must have owned different Sprinters than I did. A stock T1N Sprinter has nearly 9 inches of ground clearance, about the same as a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Doing the standard upgrade to 215/85-16 tires picks up another 3/4 of an inch.
The approach angle is not great, and the departure angle...
A lot depends on how much you care about having to turn around. Winch, Maxtraxs and/or air out of the tires is likely to get a Sprinter out of an initial stuck. If your next thought is to turn around, you're a good candidate for making do with 2WD. If your're more of a "Got through that one...
I'm certainly going to consider paying for one. But then again, I looked into sending my first Sprinter to Germany for conversion, so anything in the $10K area seems a genuine bargain to me. If you figure Quigley wants something over $12K to convert an E-Series or Savanna/Express, it doesn't...
A valid point, but there are lots of pictures and extremely detailed specifications available through the link.
For anyone considering whether it is worth clicking through, I suggest it is. The specification sheet gives you a really fine idea of how one equips a half-million-plus dollar...
Hi, Bryce,
Thanks for your interest in my grey Sprinter. I probably will be selling it sometime within the next year or so, but I have no plans right at the moment. We're sort of waiting for the new Sprinter 4x4 to be released and get some reviews back on that, and need to keep the grey one...
There's some family medical stuff going on and I probably have to stay around home. I'm sad about that; I'd have enjoyed letting people get a chance to check the Sprinter out and hear what they think.
