Portland to Prescott on a Ural Solo

To avoid the vast array of chain restaurants Scott has seen before, let's propose 6:30 pm at Pastini's at Bridgeport: Bridgeport Village Mall 7307 SW Bridgeport Rd B-105, Tigard, OR (503) 718-2300 It's immediately west of I-5 at Exit 290. -- Take Exit 290 for Lower Boone's Ferry Road toward...

    Sand Ladder Mounting

They panels weren't as big or heavy, but when I had the AdventureDuo Series 80, it was done like this: with big metal disks over the studs coming off the roof rack. Click the picture for more detail in the big view.

Portland to Prescott on a Ural Solo

Great! How's somewhere around I-5 Exit 290 or 289? Lots of stuff around there. Is that roughly the "south side of the city" distance you were thinking of? And (I mention this in the name of optimization) if you're worried about running late and riding after dark--I was raised on Triumph...

    EarthRoamer XV-JP "Northwest Edition"

I did the southern leg of the Washington Backcountry Discovery Route this weekend with my new buddies Steve, Beth, Yves and Leslie. We had nifty trucks and saw pretty sights and a good time was had by all. I had family responsibilities that required I bail early, and the others are still...

And if you're worried that the bike could have shakedown issues and you want someone to ride to Eugene with you in a support van with tools, etc., I can follow you down in the Sprinter. (And as I would probably stay Wednesday night, you're welcome to camp out of the Sprinter if you didn't want...

We've ended up with two ArkPak threads going now. Check at http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/115208 for the newer one.

    1994 Mercedes-Benz 814D/3700

Sigh. I was worried someone would come up with a plausible scheme. OK, I promise to think about it, but it's not like I'm short on vehicular entertainment around here. (And I find the door curtains a little frilly, don't you? ;) ) Maybe Christian needs it. He's high on the list of people who...

Does anyone know about ARK Portable battery boxes and where to buy them

Let me attest to the fact that the special offer is indeed a special offer. From Australia, the three-piece kit set me back $614, and I thought it was a fair enough deal at that. At $449, you save enough to make up 2/3 the cost of a 130 amp-hour AGM.

    1994 Mercedes-Benz 814D/3700

Sunraiderseeker will have his own list, but when I imported CamperMog, among many stressful issues, the winner had to be wiring about $30K Euros to the account of a guy you never met in a country 6,000 miles away. Sounds too-stupid for-words, doesn't it, but that's how it's done with the...

    Inexpensive Thermometer?

There are a few LaCrosse models that come with external temperature sensors that have a readout on them, and they recently started having sensors, like this one, that have a 10 foot long probe on them, allowing you to put the readout where you can see it, but the sensor in an optimum position...

That unfortunately matches my understanding and expectations. Certainly would be nice if it was otherwise, but it's been a long time since I've heard of anyone finding a remotely acceptable loophole. :(

Thanks very much, Tad. I appreciate it a lot, and I'm sure others will, too. This is one of the most famous overlanders ever, and it'll be great to have a report. :clapsmile

Does anyone know about ARK Portable battery boxes and where to buy them

The National Luna system is best viewed as an auxiliary battery with convenient plugs on it. While removable, it'd most commonly be wired into the vehicle and stay there. The Ark Pak and the Yetis are intended to go in and out of the vehicle; they could, for example, easily be used for...

Does anyone know about ARK Portable battery boxes and where to buy them

Another point to the patient. The prices listed on the U.S. site are enough less than I paid that using that website is the way to go. Thanks, Mark.

Does anyone know about ARK Portable battery boxes and where to buy them

I could comment if I knew of a lot of other alternatives. But I bought the Ark Pak because it seemed pretty much unique when the balance of size and capacity were considered. Someone might well point out that you can duplicate the Ark Pak's capability yourself. And while it's true that here'd...

Does anyone know about ARK Portable battery boxes and where to buy them

The whole thing has been switched over to 110 Volt, both input for the re-charging and output from the inverter. It's made to hold a Group 31 battery with no slop, and the Sears Platinum Die Hard AGM is rated at 130 amp-hours and costs under $300, so it's probably the most likely battery to end...

NO EXPERIENCE WITH MOTORCYCLES. LOOKING FOR HELP

I second Jame's recommendation. It's hard to find a lighter dual sport bike with enough fuel capacity and comfort to handle daily commuting, and anything much bigger than a KLR will do less well when off pavement. And as an example, I just spent time a NW Mogfest with two longtime friends who...
