Sounds a bit like the alarm kill switch is kicking in. What Montero year do you have? There is an excellent write-up here on ExPo on how to remove that alarm system from Gen 2’s and Gen 2.5’s. It’s not a true OEM system, it was added at the Port when they were shipped in and it’s a kludge.

With the 3.0 in the model year, certainly a unique vehicle. Does it have a rear locker? I’ve seen a couple really clean examples go for $5,000 or so, but those were USA Spec Gen 2.5’s with the rear locker and 3.5 SOHC motors. Does that body coating peel off? It might be a turn off for some...

I’m not familiar with the tent you cited, but I personally really like the REI BaseCamp tent. I have both the 4 and the 6. The 4 is an excellent true three person tent.

I used the Cabella's "Universal Bucket Seat Covers" in my Gen 2.5 Monty, and they were terrific. I paid a lot more though, I think mine were $29.95 :-)

The hinges on my Gen 3 are a lot smaller and lighter duty looking than the hinges on my Gen 2.5, and I sheared one of those with a 33" spare on the door....
