    The Status of Overlanding Today

The amount of wasted space in a modern bed is stunning.

I'm not certain what the total length will be. By eliminating the thickness of the front of the bed and the tailgate, Brent can get what he needs done with 7 to 7.5 feet. He may need the camper to overhang a tad, no more than 6", to look right. I'm leaving it up to him and Matt at Hallmark. The...

    Tire Options

I used to routinely run what I thought was the best winter tire of all time, studded Nokian Hakkapeliittas. They were bomber. The Wildpeaks were a compromise, knowing they wouldn't be as good, but hopefully good enough. They turned out to be better than any tire I've ever run that wasn't a fully...

Wow, external window flaps! I agree, whatever gets you out there. We have a 2008 Silverado with a 2018 Raven. We need more space and more external storage though.

That particular build is for a topper without a traditional back door. If I'm not mistaken, it's an AT habitat. The ones built for slide ins won't have a tailgate. The upper boxes will be bigger too. Mine will have doors on the back of the upper boxes for sliding skis in and out.

Here's the first to roll out of the Bowen shop. At first glance, it looks like all the rest, but the floor of the camper sits at standard bed height.

Check out the Bowen Customs Instagram page. He has pictures of the Tactical Application Vehicles (TAV) build up now. It's a standard bed height. Obviously, the one he's building for us will be bigger. The first full sizer built for a slide in will be for the Mortells' Scout. We're still waiting...

I ordered a F350 Super Cab, 6.75 bed, 7.3/4.30 XLT Premium, with FX4, Camper Package, Winch, Dual Batteries, Block Heater, Carpet Delete and Upfitter Switches. Hallmark K2 with various custom tweaks. Bowen Customs slide in camper bed replacement. I hesitate to call it a flatbed, because it...

It has actually been done quite a bit, but not like this, at least that I’ve ever seen. I’ve looked at a LOT of deck/box combos. A flatbed deck sits 5” higher than a standard bed to allow for rear wheel articulation. That raises the camper 5” higher than it would be in a standard truck bed...

Well, necromancing my own thread! Truck shipped. Ordered 17" Method 701s and 35 12.5r17 Toyo Open Country A/T IIIs. Still deciding on suspension. The biggest switch now is that we went with a Bowen Customs "flatbed." I put it in quotes because it won't be flat. The bed replacement will...

What cool things are powered from your upfitter (aux switches)

Having never augmented my lighting, as we tend to reach our destinations in the day time if we’re off road, I’m intrigued. What are ditch lights and IR lights? Also, what’s a wigwag? ? Sorry for veering off topic a bit, but I have 6 switches to plan for in our upcoming build.

Haven‘t done it, but there’s apparently a way to constantly run 5&6.

Super Duty with upfitter on its way. Following!

    F350 Grille/Bumper Guard

I‘ve already discussed it with them. They said it isn’t a popular enough option to justify the engineering and another SKU, but that could change. My main objective is to be able to be road worthy still in the event of a strike.

    F350 Grille/Bumper Guard

I started another thread on full bumpers. I don’t think the guard is going to work. The strongest option, Ranch Hand, is incompatible with the factory winch. ?

    F350 Bumper

I'll level, but not lift significantly higher. We'll run 35s. My main goal is safety and continued roadworthiness in the event of a strike far from home, especially in some place like Baja. I still don't know if I can get credit for the Ford/Warn winch. If not, it'll likely remain stock. If I...

    F350 Bumper

They do, but those models protrude much further out than the Crawler and the winch hang out even further. Like the rear bumper though! ;)

    F350 Bumper

I really like the Trail Ready Crawler. It fits close, maintains a good approach angle, and nicely hides a big winch. It doesn't protect above the bumper though. Any other ideas that have all the benefits of the TR, but that have protection that extends above the bumper? Thanks!

What is the base vehicle for a Four Wheel Camper Flatbed?

I have a half-ton Silverado with a Raven shell and we can go over weight. Personally, no matter what anyone says about how well their built, I would not buy a Toyota for this purpose. We're upgrading to an 8' camper (Hallmark K2) on a flatbed, and I elected to get a F350 (7.3/4.30). If you're...

    F350 Grille/Bumper Guard

Sorry to hear that. :( I called Ranch Hand and they said they didn't support it at this time. I'll have to find a dealer and see if I can figure out a work around.
