Finally did solar in my JK

Congrats. I finally got solar mounted on my travel trailer today after buying all the stuff on Black Friday. 400w of Renogy to a 100/30 Victron. Sun was pretty much set by the time I was done so I didn’t get much of a test.

Weight distribution hitch / sway control off pavement

A WDH can bend your trailers frame if you try to go up/down a steep incline. As far as I can tell it’s what bent the frame on my 30’ trailer. Spent a week in southern CO waiting for the local trailer shop to fix my junk. Not fun. WDH is good on the highway but not on anything very steep/uneven.

The benefit of charging to manufacturers specification is longer life.

Guess who's back!?! Atl-atl's K5 Blazer + Four Wheel Camper "The Crawlin Cabin" documentation thread!

It could be a lot of things. Play in all the steering links, in the gear box itself, or could be the frame is cracked under the steering box,

I've never checked U joints like that. Normaly I grab onto the drive shaht and spin it clockwise/counterclockwise and see how much slop is in the joint. Your check of the front axle's U joints isn't correct IMO. You're just showing how much the axle shaft will wiggle around, not play in the...

Critique my solar charger/battery monitor setup?

I then let the truck have a rest and gave the Progressive Dynamics converter a test. It's the 60 amp model with "charge wizard" (smart multi stage charger). Notice the difference between the voltages at the charger and at the battery 25' away. From the factory the charge wire from the converter...

Critique my solar charger/battery monitor setup?

Now that going to Alaska for the summer is out of the question this project was put on the back burner. I finally got around to testing my Renogy 40amp DC-DC setup. I let the batteries discharge for a while so I could test the re-charge. I meant to let the batteries go down to about 50% but I...

Looks good. On my ‘84 plow truck the charge wire coming off the alt was a wimpy ten gauge that went to the other side of the engine bay before coming back to the battery. I took some 2 gauge and went right from the alt to the battery. It helps keep the battery charged when using the power hungry...

I bought a HD because I needed the ability to tow my 10,000lb 30' long travel trailer across the country and back with a bed full of junk. We were 18k combined weight(truck is rated for 22K I think?). The truck would get 7-8 mpg at that weight, on flat ground. BTW, diesel trucks and ecoboost...

I I get 13-14 highway with my 2011 Z71 with 4:10 gears and stock 32.5” tires. I don’t mind the ride except for the time I threw out my back and then my 45min commute was murder. I’m also on 20’s which are slightly more jarring than 16-17”. If you’re looking at HD GM’s remember the body style...

Hey Vortec Guys! / Sierra pickup / Suburban / Yukon etc - Finally has Index!

I don’t mind the plastic injected U joints. As someone living in the rust belt I find that I get the torch out often enough for chassis work anyway. If they were C clip U joints I’d probably still have to get the torch out.

The HD trucks changed in 2011, the HD suburbans were changed later. Not sure about the vans.
