    GMT800 People - Opinions wanted on upgrades/mods

350-400 mile range is pretty sweet when you compare it to the sub 300 people get with loaded LC100 and 200s.

For a beginner, what should I build?

The AWD function is great for the "when the wife drives it" days. A couple times my wife has taken my truck and there is a bit of snow I just put it in auto 4wd before she takes it. She doesn't have to worry about shifting or whatever.

    Why so few GM Builds?

A stock Crosstrek XV on good tires will do 90% of what 90% of people on this forum want to do. It's just that most people don't want one, or want something else.

    Why so few GM Builds?

Literally every body on frame pickup sold today is "expo ready" off of the showroom floor. Just the same as any Subaru Outback/Crosstrek is. Same thing with any new vehicle from Jeep's lineup. Or literally a $800 20 year old XJ. Buy something with decent clearance, a good four wheel drive...

    Why so few GM Builds?

I'm on the beach all the time, and you don't need lockers, just less air pressure. I do understand blowing them at full extension, fully cross axle'd, putting power down, hopping on and off traction, etc; thats unfortunately unavoidable if it happens, and can happen with any IFS. I'd hope the CV...

    Why so few GM Builds?

The IFS isn't the biggest problem in the Chevys... its stupid low they are and how HUGE the front bumpers are. You don't need F/R lockers in a 8000lb expo rig on 35s to go up and down mountain passes and through two track.

    Chevy Suburban/Tahoe (2001-06) VS Toyota Sequoia (2001-06)

These two are good competitors in my mind. The Seqouia is definitely bigger, and has easier to access 2nd and 3rd row seating with the larger rear doors. Power/towing/payload is similar enough that its all moot. Seqouia wins in the front suspension department with a coilover as opposed to the...

2000 Suburban K1500 budget low lift with 37"s

The later GMT800 1500 Silverados (05+?) with rear drums also have the larger front brakes the GMT900 SUVs got. Then the 900 1500 Silverados kept those brakes throughout the model run IIRC. It's weird.

    Time for a replacement?

Pretty beat for that price? All the ones I see look like they were treated like work trucks.

    Time for a replacement?

How many friends do you really need? https://longisland.craigslist.org/cto/d/2004-chevy-silverado-pickup/6691665386.html 8' bed and a cap, 4x4 with the floor shift. Even better if its the V6 for that sweet sweet 17 MPG. His price is definitely a little high with that tape over whatever warning...

    Time for a replacement?

If it's just gonna be a beater beach truck then yea, who cares. It'll rot anyway. You'll be able to find a pickup cheaper if you don't mind going that route.

    Time for a replacement?

Rust is really the only killer on the GMT800s. The rear brake line requires dropping the fuel tank, I just replaced all of mine with the stainless dorman kit. Not terrible, but its an all day job. There are so so so many of these rigs around, I wouldn't bother with one that looks like it was...

    Is the Tacoma enough truck?

That is the exact motor going into it. This thread was a good read. I'm still a couple years out from replacing my ECSB Silverado, but I'm still torn between SUV and a pickup. I'm not a Ford guy at all, but the 2.7 checks all the boxes and the new 7.3 gasser (pushrod!!!) 250/350 sounds...

    Thoughts/Input on GM engines appreciated

The GMT800 trucks are tried, true, and simple machines. Pretty easy to find grandpa specials still. Mine was low mileage but I do almost 20k a year so my 05 just hit 135 this morning. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Silverado-1500-LT1/372384332806?hash=item56b3d5fc06:g:9XQAAOSwjkxbgv7k&vxp=mtr...

GMT800 Suburban Towing issues: Gearing or power?

Headers, cats, exhaust and tune is worth 30-40 to the wheels. You don’t need more gear if you are running the stock tires or only one size up... your burb has 3.73s already. You have the Corvette shift servo? It should hold 2nd longer than the stock one.

I saw a two lifted Trailblazers (one extended wheelbase, on regular) for the first time last weekend. They ain't too bad looking. That I6 is a great motor too.

    2005 Chevy 2500HD weekender expedition_light build.

I'm interested in hearing your feedback on the Deaver mini-pack. I'm interested in getting those for my 1500, but I don't want the thing to sag to the tires with a light load.
