    Couple quick car shopping questions

SE vs. HSE.....The memory seats (does mirrors too) are great if you have multiple drivers often. The better stereo is worth it if you listen to mostly music. If either of those doesn't perk your ears, then no reason to single out an HSE. Most of the other options (Cold weather, HD, Nav, HIDs)...

Behind the dash in a Gen 2.5, is it really that open?

Most (not all) dome light circuits have a constant power supply, and sunroof switches have a switch power supply. I've safely, and successfully, used both to power 5 volt USB adapters. I can't imagine a camera needing more than that. If you have a Homelink mirror, then that might be another...

    LR3 Model/Tire Questions

If the steering wheel has the phone buttons, then the truck has bluetooth for the phone. *NO* LR3 had bluetooth for audio from the factory. Also, the factory AUX (headphone style jack) input attenuates the volume to a lower setting than any other source.....the result is that the Voice Control...

    LR3 Model/Tire Questions

As long as the SE has the 4.4 V8, I would say the choice is a wash. The memory seat on the HSE also adjusts the side mirrors, so that may be a little tip to one side if you both drive it regularly. The front parking sensor is a 50/50 wash between convenience and annoyance as it tends to go off...

    Montero Towing?

I should have clarified. I meant how it feels and handles. Not the absolute weight capacity or being able to fly at highly illegal speeds while towing "luxury living for a week". In the "up to 5000 pound" range it feels more stable and safe than a "1/2 ton" pickup. It might have more to do with...

    Montero Towing?

I'm a little late to this conversation, but I've towed a '98 Outback (about 3500lbs) on a heavy Uhaul car carrier a few times. This was with a '95 SR (3.5DOHC) w/32 inch tires. It pulled it fine. Power was always good, even if it did need to drop a gear or two. The 3.5 has a high enough redline...

    which year LR3?

Don't get me wrong. I wasn't implying that the '07+ plus wasn't at least a bit better, they likely are. I was just saying that it's hard to nail down what exactly might make them better.

    LR3 input GPS coordinates?

Also be aware that the LR3 Nav takes degrees, minutes (and seconds?) While some online maps (such as Google) just display degrees with a decimal (i.e. 32.4563N). The decimal portion will need to be converted to minutes by multiplying by 60.

    which year LR3?

I too am curious as to what allegedly makes the later ones more reliable. There are very few actual hardware changes, and it's hard to find any supporting documentation on ones that may (or may not) have been made. I have heard about the front diff failures. I have read that it was supposedly...

    Internal 2014 LR4 information

My mind wants to reject that. No modern manufacturer would accept the extra material costs, machining costs, extra friction, extra weight, etc. If that is true, I wouldn't hold out any hope of increased mileage.

Overland Journal Project Land Rover Discovery 4 (LR4)

I *believe*, based on pictures, the HD and non-HD housings and center carriers are different. To replace a rear diff on an HD truck you would need to source a non-HD rear diff as a core for the ARB to go into. at least that's how the units look from pictures..... As far as the electronics go...

    Non-lead Foot LR3 Owners Question

USA spec LR3 HSE, 4.4 V8, always use 91 octane and has the HD package if you think it matters. Usually I drive 80% highway, 20% city. The highway portion is many times traffic laden with many stops and start. I get 14-15 MPG. On a recent 1000 mile trip that was mostly highway at 70-80 MPH, but...

    LR3 Alignment question

As long as the shop has the diagnostic tools to put the truck's air suspension into it's special 'tight tolerance' mode for alignments, there is nothing special to the procedure outside of most 4 wheel alignments.

    Old Rovers Too Feeble?

For a relative noob...... Define 'old school over-landing' Define 'new style over-landing' Define 'off-roading' Which have you done? For me 'old school over-landing' is the classical romantic version we like to see. The 'got a job to do' and 'got to get all this crap there'. My mind recalls...

Moving from a JKU to and LR3?

She uses the heated seat a lot in her Mazda, but has never talked about it in the LR3. I've never used mine, but I should try it the next time I have a sore back (according to a friend). Now...the boys in the back......The rear heated seats are their favorite part, by far. Being able to use...

Moving from a JKU to and LR3?

Memory seat on the HSE. The "programmed defrost" cycle that turns all the correct stuff on at once on a cold morning. The "dipping" in reverse side mirrors. Those are the things my wife likes.

Moving from a JKU to and LR3?

Completely agree. Wheeling, for me, is to get to someplace. To go see something or to get somewhere remote. Not the action itself. I'll gladly take the 'easy' line because it's the other side that's the goal. The LR3 excels in this regard. It's certainly not the ultimate rock crawler, but it's...

Moving from a JKU to and LR3?

A few thoughts..... You mentioned your JK was an X? If so, I think the LR3 can out-wheel it once you have equivalent tires. Comfort and ride quality, as mentioned, are not even directly comparable. I wonder what the mileage difference would be? I average about 14.5 MPG in my LR3 V8 at about...

    daily driver...what to get

Subarus XV Crosstrek looks intriguing. Small and economical enough for a daily driver. Enough options to keep it from feeling like an econobox. Able to fit some gear in the hatch. And, capable of running down dirt/fire roads like a rally car.

    Second battery?

I have seen a write-up somewhere of how the module (transmission?) that is installed in from of the master cylinder/ABS unit was moved into the fender area. Then the owner was able to install the second battery just like it was an LR3.
