Exped Megamat Duo 10 torn after zero trips

Wow. I also must have read 20 positive reviews of that around the interwebs. I wonder if air got trapped and it blew out? But I too lean on every mat I have ever rolled up in my life and never have had that happen. Strange.

    UCO Flatpack grill/firepit

I picked one of these up. Surprised it is better made then I was expecting. I was able to actually fill up a pressure cooker with 4 quarts and heat and cook something with two bunches of kindling. This is not remotely what it is designed for but it put up with the weight quite well. Could easily...

Colorado/Canyon Duramax Diesel DEAD in 2023

I loved diesels historically. While this engine wasn't bad it shined above its true worth due to everyone else having gutless revvy V6's with crappier transmissions (gear ratios). The emissions compliance battle for such a boutique engines in NA spec is a losing battle. As is long term...

Cooper STT Pro vs ST Maxx vs Geolandar G003 vs Falken

I have had really good luck with Nokian snows. They are pricey but really great tires from Finland. I have gotten 8 seasons out of them before plus amateur pseudo racing stuff so I did not treat them particularly nicely. Video: Snow shenanigans

Cooper STT Pro vs ST Maxx vs Geolandar G003 vs Falken

Those are all pretty good tires. The ST MAXX are better in the snow than I thought they would be considering they are not particularly sipe-y treads. Maybe they have the rubber compound dialed into the sweet spot. Way better than BFG AT's that is for sure. But honestly while I can drive through...

Where can I find HP Brown Sauce in the U.S.?

Stuff is for sale and is popular in restaurants all over Mexico. So strangely there is some chance Mexican tiendas might have it in the States too.

    Dream Build, 1997 Toyota Tacoma

Funny because I have an OME lift with an extra leaf added and the leafs are too soft still. I have a ton of stuff I carry but who gets a lift to drive around empty all the time lol? This is an Overlanding forum. ;) I also think 5100's have under damped valving most of the time and are no where...

Sprinter 4WD Conversion Idea, GMT-800 IFS.

I am always amazed and envious of the knowledge, skills and determination of this build. But at times while reading the updates a small part of me is also deliriously happy all my vehicles have manual transmissions, no ABS and no DSC. ?

    First-gen Tacoma 5th gear swap?

Can almost guarantee you would have to shift out of 5th everytime a bug hit the windshield with only 2500 in 5th. Crunch the numbers and see if you can borrow some bigger tires for just the rear and go for a highway cruise to see if you like the cruising RPM. I'm betting you won't like it...

24-hour sand driving record in a Discovery 5

Regardless of the make or model this was a pretty pointless endeavor. I would literally be more interested in pouring all the gas this took to do onto something and lighting it on fire and watching the flames.

    New Defender News

I absolutely hate this about newer Tacoma and 4Runner fronts. I have always wanted to take a giant bandsaw to one and show how much you can chop off before hitting anything important. I wish someone would just saw the whole front off including the lights and do a super minimalist but functional...

    4 cyl. Tacos?

I would say it's totally possible but you really need a manual in this case to not have the lack of power be annoying. Toyotas trans gearing in their autos is atrocious and it's that much worse in a 4cyl. Also plan on regearing diffs immediately even with relatively small 31-32" tires. That will...

    New Defender Rage/Hate Thread

I am being 50% glib and joking and 50% serious when I say that this sentence shows a thought process so alien to me that I literally can't trust anything you say after reading this. I'm not a particular LR fan either. But wow. No comprendo mucho.

Why are other full size SUV's not used in overlanding/offroading as often as Forerunner/Landcruiser?

GM bolts modules and cooling hoses and brake lines and fuel lines and you name it places that are spectacularly vulnerable. Clearly serious off road use is last on their list of priorities even compared to the other domestics. As nice as some of the off road packages are in terms of the...

    Rhino-Rack BatWing Review/Write Up

I have an RTT so that ship had sailed for me. But I didn't notice a thing extra with the awning. For the utility it provides I would risk it. The coverage 270 awnings provide with the fast setup time for me makes normal ARB type awnings kinda pointless. I have spent whole weekends in the rain...

    Inexpensive vs. Expensive Winch

I went with the Warn VR to split the difference between expensive and cheap and known and unknown. I also knew it fit in my limited space application. I have been happy with it so far but it has lead an easy life mainly winching trees off of trails. But so far so good FWIW.

Ronny Dahl's Recovery Mat Torture Test

With all those brands I would have liked to see the differences in normal use. I also would have liked to see how easy the nubs wear off. If the same wheelspin kills the nubs on all the boards the same or not would have been nice to know. Everyone knows Icons are a better shock than OME's...

    2020 Gaia Topo Map

The Gaia topo layer still absolutely sucks for having road names. I use the US topo layer the most because it has most names. Sometimes locals or forum guys refer to everything by the text name of the road instead of the number designation. Sometimes you are trying to stay on a certain name of...
