    Alaskan Camper '84/'14 Build Thread

I haven't forgotten about this thread, progress has just been slow. Designing while you work is not the best method, and results in having to play around a lot "let's see, if this goes here then this has to move here and...." I made some progress, the cab over platform is mounted and the...

Buying or hiring someone to make a drawer system

I believe it was mentioned above, but Baltic Birch is a great plywood for this type of thing. It had more plys(layers of alternating grain wood) and no voids. It looks great with just a rounded over edge like on a drawer side. It's expensive(all wood is expensive), about $100 for 4x8' sheet of...

That thing is bad! I freaking love it! I never finished the black out look on mine, waiting on the stock tires to die so I can get new rims and bigger rubber. Sent from my Passport

    Newer alaskan camper wanted

Sweet, looks real clean. If the seals are bad, I would look really carefully for signs of water intrusion, especially on the bottom inside of the upper section(below the windows)(might need a mirror and a good light) Sent from my Passport

    Alaskan Camper '84/'14 Build Thread

Here is the corner, as I mentioned above the front bottom pc is bent three times so there are no seams except at the sides. I gooped up the side seams really heavily with 4000 as the powdercoated support brackets cover the seam Sent from my Passport

    Alaskan Camper '84/'14 Build Thread

Thanks! It's a fun project, but it's a bit frustrating as it takes up my whole shop and I have other interests that I can't focus on until this thing is outside! I have been distracted lately with shopping for a big Lathe( big for a Gig(guy in garage)) 16"x40 engine lathe with 24" in the gap...

    Alaskan Camper '84/'14 Build Thread

There are two S locks about 16" apart at the top center of the roof. A standard roof vent or fantastic fan fits nicely between them. According to the research I did, the S locks don't leak, I certainly saw no signs that the 30 year old roof I took off leaked at the S locks. The roof is only...

    Alaskan Camper '84/'14 Build Thread

Finally got some work done on the camper. My son and I got the cabover section(the part you sleep on, not the flip up walls) sheet metal on. I was pretty happy to get the front piece on in one piece (wraps around the front on three sides) It wasn't easy with the siding brake, because you have to...

Why not get the biggest battery possible?

Umm- it's not rocket science, it's Electrical Science and Chemistry. If you care about how often you have to replace your batteries, and you care about having that reserve capacity when it's 20 below or in an emergency, then how you charge/discharge and the type of battery itself does matter...

Rusty Frame Recall - not going as hoped / $5,000 additional cost

I wouldn't be able to sleep after the dealers around here did a frame off rebuild, I'm going to have to start changing my own oil again they are so useless. Sent from my Passport

Don't let a dealer ruin it for you, as far as I'm concerned most dealers are Jerks. It's a big purchase, but I find when I obsess over the details, things don't go as well as if I relax a little. Fast forward to the end game, driving a new truck around with a sweet camper on the back, try not...

    EarthRoamer XV-JP "Northwest Edition"

I don't know Mike at all, and I will admit that this thread makes me dizzy, but certain types of people, myself included, are never happy with anything for more than a short time. It's not greed, and it's not that the tool we have won't work for the job, it's the quest, it's the build, it's...
