How to build your own Carbon Fiber Camper making your own Composite/Foam panels.

The fiberglass will flex much more before breaking while being nearly as strong. Coefficient of thermal expansion is about the same as carbon... and while we are on the subject I'm pretty sure the epoxy you are using has a coefficient that is multiples higher. It will look very pretty with the...

PLEASE !!!! pick my new truck for our build

I'd only consider keeping the Tundra since you already have it. They have well proven reliability, and I think it will work well... maybe with a little tweaking and careful selection. I guess I don't like trading vehicles as often as some people... ;) I'll just tell you my experience... The...

How to build your own Carbon Fiber Camper making your own Composite/Foam panels.

Could even use fiberglass tape. For a solid joint it's good to have a continuous "bridge" of the outer carbon layers. The radius of glue on the inner edge would achieve this, but on the outer it's really a butt-joint of the very thin skin and adhesive. Still if it works, it's good enough! Are...

PLEASE !!!! pick my new truck for our build

The Aterra is made from panels that have a PU honeycomb core, which is is not high R-value. I don't know what the Hallmark has, but question the Aterra being better in that regard. The Attera also looks to have a rather tight sleeping berth. Since you said "we", that is probably very...

    Insulating FWC

Not really. For cold temperatures, polystyrene is quite good. I think the issue with these is bridging of the aluminum frame. If you can attach an extra 1/2" of insulation inside the stock wall it would help a lot.

How to build your own Carbon Fiber Camper making your own Composite/Foam panels.

I like your edge joining method and use of tape to make the filler smooth. After a bit of sanding you could even put a layer of cloth on to make it extra secure and still pretty simple and not too messy... (y)

    Life expectancy of a 365 hp 3.5L V6

365hp definitely means Ecoboost. I think the NA was 3.7L.

Should I buy a 2024 Tacoma TRD Off Road?

The mid-size trucks keep getting bigger, so that there is hardly any difference. Based on what I've been able to find, the Ranger is 79.8" wide... and the F150 is 79.8". On the Ranger a few inches of that is fenders or something, because the 2wd is only 75.5". but still. The track width...

    Tufport Overlander

Aren't they just a single wall of fiberglass? R value will be nil on that. You need 1 inch of high quality foam for an R value of 5. Water weighs 8.33 lbs/gal, so remember that for your drinking and washing needs. You seem to be prioritizing comfort where climate control is concerned, but not...

    Tufport Overlander

I'm highly skeptical, as it appears you plan to live in it for long periods. Insulation and interior wall, windows, furniture and storage, batteries and solar (considerable for AC), tools and equipment, suspension and tire upgrades, extra fuel, water, food, refrigerator, etc. It adds up, really...

Going from prototype to full production must not be easy for new Integrated Overland Campers

Plenty of ways to do that, and I think for the great majority of people it's more sensible. If you have a fairly recent pickup model, then you have stiff frame which negates the need for a pivoting subframe. I'd remove the bed and build something custom that has storage under and on the sides...

Rim Width to Tire Width Ratio - Heavy Vehicles

It's a common misconception that the skinny tires have less rolling resistance, but this isn't true... at least not on pavement. The wider tire has a shorter contact patch and less casing distortion, and less hysteresis from flexing the casing. The wider tire will also have more aero drag, so on...

    DIY forced air propane heater?

It's an affliction... It's happy hour... have another swig or whatever spins your props, and scale it back a bit... just for fun. You are talking about a RTT which has ******** for insulation anyway... so the heat you add will mostly be wasted. Insulate your body and you will sleep well...

Going from prototype to full production must not be easy for new Integrated Overland Campers

Many are 1-tons... and some you listed do >5500 level chassis... just sayin... Financial history is a big one. Many got a good start during the covid boom, but they can still be killed by a major design or assembly goof. Trying to get started now would be tough. I see that Truckhouse hasn't...

    DIY forced air propane heater?

If you are cheap and therefore considering a janky furnace designed and built by someone else... get a good sleeping bag, and a nice fluffy down blanket to throw over the top. Your ~100W of resting body heat is sufficient with decent insulation. If you hate getting into a cold bag and waiting...

Should I buy a 2024 Tacoma TRD Off Road?

Odds are really good that there will be a few new-model issues that need to be remedied. Historically Toyotas were better than average in this respect, but I don't know anymore. TFL grenaded the front diff on one recently and they weren't doing anything radical. If I was wanting to buy a...

Going from prototype to full production must not be easy for new Integrated Overland Campers

On my latest 3-week trip (camping mostly in the mountains SW of Bouse AZ) the number of vehicles of that nature I saw was zero. Even the people with built offroad capable rigs, parked close to the highway where the access was easy and the cell reception good. The RVers with money that I saw...

Using a lithium battery as a house battery in an overland vehicle

Exactly... but you were talking about 2-gauge wire, and that's a lot more stout than necessary. Just need to work the numbers, and size the wires for a modest loss. The Renogy charger needs 8V minimum, so no worries there.
