Surely the charge controller will negate the need for large wires, as it will adjust the output to what the battery needs...? I'm not familiar with the Renogy DC-DC though. I'm interested in how it works for you, as I'm thinking about getting one to supplement the solar.
Ha! I got one in December. It works great, unlike the Power Queen I bought that failed to balance properly and was returned.
LiFePO4 is very normal chemistry for house batteries... really no other lithium is in the game.
The lift really only prevents rubbing if it's at the top of the wheelwell. If it's fore-aft it will still rub.
A wheel or tire that sticks out farther will rub more fore-aft when turning... the outer edge of the tread as it sweeps.
If your offset is just enough for interior clearance, then...
I was whacking the panel with a sledge hammer to judge the "impact resistance"... obviously an extreme case! It made sense to me that carbon would be a bit lower due to its higher stiffness, and not much greater strength. A better comparison might have been to normalize weight, in which case I...
Thanks a bunch for that page! (y)I used the 11oz cloth at the bottom a few years ago, bought from another place. When they quit selling it, I couldn't find it anywhere. The price is higher at USC, but it's still a great price for carbon.
I'd also like to thank you for posting this! Great info...
IME in small campers, being able to sit up straight was a huge improvement over not! Going from that to being able to stand was not that big of a deal. But this camper could have been 8-10" lower and still be ok for sitting up. Use the cabover for storage and it would be a good rig for 1 person...
Rattlesnakes seem to follow the calendar far more than temperature, and if there were any warmish days before the snow, they were probably committed to ending their long nap. I've camped in S AZ many winters (Dec-Mar) and only once saw a rattler, and it was a baby in Dec.
It's nice that they...
These were $6k new. Inflation puts that at a little over $40k in today's money.
Not that it's relevant to this rig, because all its drivetrain and suspension is different and much more capable.
It's only 72" wide inside and the cabover narrows. The "fence" that blocks the cabover folds down, and maybe that gives you 6' fore aft... but it looks like less.
I'm curious about the typical gap between the camper and top of the cab, because it looks like too much. I'm a fan of making that...
Maybe on the mpg, but the weight won't be the reason. If the tire is larger that is more likely to reduce rolling resistance (same tire) rather than increase it. Aero drag due to more height might be noticeable... but they also stick out less. Should be very minor effects either way.
With 10...
(y) Woven FRP is good! Glad to see you getting into this game!
Do you mind sharing the specs on the FRP and foam? The core foam doesn't look like any XPS I've seen.
Also, for anyone who thinks $22/sq ft is expensive, even a 7x7x10' box is only 378 sq ft, or $8,316. Seems pretty reasonable for...
Cheap (and easy), light, strong, durable, well insulated, convenient, serviceable, etc...
Much of it is an experiment and test, with you as the guinea pig.
If the aluminum is as strong as your FRP, that should be plenty. Some people seem to do fine with just adhesive stuck in the joint and no edge reinforcement at all, so...
My 2 cents is that it has a 6" lift. Also they don't seem to be teetering on 2 wheels. The front is also less stiff than the rear, but if they put a swaybar on that would change.
