    Mid-size vs Full-size truck setup

I think you are looking at the new Tundra... most of the ones that are built for overlanding are 2nd gen which have a 22.0' turning radius. The DC 8' bed like mine, has a 24.5'... nearly the same as the new shortbed.

    Anyone heard of Topolo RV?

Do you know who makes them there?

    cross-shopping high top installers...

    (y) Wood slats glued in place... prettier too. I've heard it isn't good to completely encapsulate wood. FRP angle or square, aluminum, handlaid FG over foam, etc. if you want to eliminate any water concerns.

    cross-shopping high top installers...

Those look nice! $3300-3700... I'm guessing installation is extra? Well maybe not, they only sell them installed.

Why the big price difference between flatbed and slide-in??

Any idea where I could sell a like new 8' 2nd Gen Tundra bed?

Citroen build it yourself new EV

The 28mph top speed is artificially regulated to satisfy silly US legalities. You can buy tuning chips that allow it to go ~80 mph. You can also buy lifts, suspension upgrades, big tires and all sorts of offroad goodies. And spare parts are even included which is nice! If I had 40' land yacht...

To Pop Up or not to Pop Up?

    (y) Nothing but clothes, bedding, window covers and such above 3' off the floor. This is something else that we seem to worry about too much... tip-over. The shell of most campers is pretty light, and if you avoid putting weight up high, the difference between a stand-up hardside and a popup is...

    pivoting frames and mounting campers

You can do a "real" (enough) pivot system with these if you arrange the rear ones on the centerline. As I recall from reading this thread, if you use fixed metal pivots you'll introduce stresses because the 3 points don't "want" to stay aligned. The poly mounts allow for some movement in all...

    pivoting frames and mounting campers

Don't know what your build looks like at all, but... A few posts above I listed Energy Suspension poly bushings. They are cheap... and I was told a static load up to 800 lbs was ok for each. A 1/2 bolt goes through them. Use as many as you want; the subframe would be "fixed" in the front (wide...

PLEASE !!!! pick my new truck for our build

I can't recline my seats anyway, because there is a bike mounted in the way. Plus there is a very nice comfy bed a few steps away, all ready to go ;) The F450 build above has a 40 gal additional tank option for $625, giving 66.5 gal total. Guess it goes in the spare tire position, which won't...

    pivoting frames and mounting campers

I have a much lighter rig, but I have 2 of the isolators on each front corner and 2 on the centerline in the back. Think 4 in the back would have been better, but I would have needed a 6" wide beam to fit two in-line and I didn't think that would fit around the spare, using the stock mounting...

    pivoting frames and mounting campers

There is a huge amount of twist there, just between the cab and bed... extreme. I made a sort of 3-point using poly cab mounts from Energy Suspension.... just put the rear ones on the centerline so they pivot, and bridge across the frame rails to support them. They pivot easily when arranged...

How to build your own Carbon Fiber Camper making your own Composite/Foam panels.

This is one brand; never used it myself. If I need thickened epoxy I just add fumed silica until I get the consistency I want...

PLEASE !!!! pick my new truck for our build

He mentioned a garage, which is better than an extended cab I think. Though I have a bicycle and tons of storage in the back seat it isn't ideal due to its shape, door size, and the door not opening all the way. Do the Fords have suicide doors? That would help some. Also there is a decent amount...

To Pop Up or not to Pop Up?

Another data point... I lose a little less than 2 mpg on the highway with a 76" interior height, and flatbed style, which makes it stick up higher. The aerodynamics of most campers are crap... including the FWC, but it makes up for it by being short. It's better if those bevels are even...

PLEASE !!!! pick my new truck for our build

Some people feel "oppressed" even in large land yachts. Others think anything more than a backpack is pure luxury. It's good to know where you and your mate land on that spectrum. IMO there is little downside to a heavier duty rig and bigger/nicer camper other than expense... and it doesn't have...

PLEASE !!!! pick my new truck for our build

Those are cab chassis trucks I'm guessing, which have standard frame dimensions. Or maybe not? On ExPo we assume that hard mounting a stiff bed to a C-channel frame will eventually kill the frame, so...

PLEASE !!!! pick my new truck for our build

I don't know about Norweld... or how easy it would be to swap that to a new truck. The mounting points are different on every pickup model. Assuming you do not have the 8' bed, then all your mounting points are on the flexy and thin part of the frame. The new bed will certainly stiffen it, but...

How to build your own Carbon Fiber Camper making your own Composite/Foam panels.

Fiberglass is definitely more flexible; ~3x difference in a layup. I tested that as well. In most applications that is not a good feature, but for a joint I don't see how it could hurt. If carbon and FG are combined in a layup, the carbon will fail first due to its much greater stiffness... so...
