Gitout Expedition Build - 2013 Toyota Tacoma DC TRD

Had a friend build a cross brace to connect the bedsides. Will be adding an internal support support system to transfer the canopy weight to the frame.

    2nd Gen Tacoma Bed strength

Yes, added a cross brace. Going to support the canopy weight from the canopy directly to the frame with an internal frame. I'm sure for on road use or lighter canopy setups you'd be fine. All depends on use and weight.

    2nd Gen Tacoma Bed strength

My bedsides had issues starting to spread. Limit the weight on them! Or add support to hold them together.

    33"s with stock gearing?

Everybody's opinion and experience is different. Here's the deal: 33s will rub lifted or not. True, you can "get away" with less rubbing on the street and level ground with a suspension lift. But seriously, why install 33s to drive on the street? Stock wheels and skinny 33s seem to fit the...

    33"s with stock gearing?

Wrong. He had to trim the fender liner but there was no rubbing even with the suspension completely compressed. Suspension lift only helps with rubbing on road. It will rub just as bad stock as lifted when the suspension is compressed.

    33"s with stock gearing?

Suspension lifts do NOT allow fitment of larger tires. Unless... you change the factory bump stops or limit up travel. This is the most common misconception people have. You can fit the same size tires lifted or not. Suspension lift will make it "look" like the larger tires fit "better" and...

    Help choosing a Tacoma

I agree. Plus the 1st Gen Tundra is nearly identical in size (width) to the 2nd Gen Tacoma. But they typically sell for less money. Plus, bigger engine.

    33"s with stock gearing?

Why do you need 33s? My 99 4runner 3.4 SC'd with stock gears it was fantastic to drive with 32s. 33s just took the edge off the braking, steering response and acceleration. Funny thing was I drove the exact same trails with both tires. Minimal advantage off road big sacrifice on road. No...

Tire Help: 2006 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab Overland Build

I highly doubt you'll feel any difference in the cushion department. I've run both sizes. Cushion is more to do with your air pressure. There's no way 255s will give you better mpg. Your gain of lower revs would be offset by the increased weight and rotational mass. You'd be lucky to...

    Bolting RTT directly to canopy....thoughts??

Have a custom rack built for it... I can give you the contact for the guy who built mine (Washugal, WA) : http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/89862-Gitout-Expedition-Build-2013-Toyota-Tacoma-DC-TRD/page14 Also, you may want to reinforce your canopy. Most are not setup to carry heavy...

Tire Help: 2006 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab Overland Build

Why do you want 255/85s? You won't be enjoying the stock gearing or braking with that size. Look at 235/85s. Much less weight and better performance. There's no way 1/2" of additional height will keep you from traveling any off road route/trail. Plus, you can get the 235/85 ST/Maxx tires...

    3.0L for overlanding/expedition use?

Run the 3.0L till it blows then swap the 3.4L. Some 3.0L last longer than others but they aren't worth fixing in my opinion. Poorly engineered engine (as far as Toyotas go) #6 cylinder runs hot (burns exhaust valves), head gasket issues, poor vacuum routing, low power, poor mpg, coolant...
