2022 Ford F550 - DIY - Adventure Expedition Vehicle Build Thread

Do you mind explaining why you chose plywood + foam core as opposed to foam core only? Or, did I miss it already? The build looks amazing, I can’t wait to see where this goes.

Front Runner water tanks vented cap

I’m not sure what kind of space you’re working with, but if you’re forced to retrofit, I’ve had good luck with this type of breather vent:

    Time for new rubber

I have 265/75R16s and 4.88s on my 3rd Gen Tacoma and think it’s fine, but I did it to get a little more usage out of that 6th gear in the AT. Tires are a riveting subject, so I’d love to hear what you end up going with.

    Convertible Overlander: Baby Shark

Is that turbo + AWD? Or was that only in the previous model years?

What Toyota truck for Box Camper build?

Did you see Overland Under Budget’s Tacoma build on YouTube? That thing is pretty rad, but you really need to be disciplined with the weight on those small trucks. It’s too bad too because the size is so nice.

    Trailer cover suggestions

Where are you? I need to give one away. It covered my popup that I no longer have. I’m in the Salt Lake City area.

Gladiator Pop-Up Pass Through Camper Build

I favor Victron because they don’t integrate their chargers into one unit. If one charger fails, you can replace only what broke. The price for two Victron chargers (one solar and one DCDC) comes out similar to the combined Renogy and less than Redarc (I think, it’s been a while). That being...

Jeep MJ Comanche truck bed tent trailer

It looks like a Cub Camper or a Kimberly Kamper, both have little to no presence in the US. I’m not sure if there was ever a US manufacturer that offered something similar. Those heavy canvas tents are nice though.

2022 RAM 5500 Composite "Super Camper"

I believe Plastic Mart works with Ronco to make tanks with custom fittings, does that help your situation at all?

Gladiator Pop-Up Pass Through Camper Build

I thought that Will Prowse’s videos on YouTube were very informative when I was making this decision.

Gladiator Pop-Up Pass Through Camper Build

Two things: 1. This is tucked into a small corner of my truck’s bed, so it’s somewhat cramped, but all of the components (charge controllers, breakers, bus bars, shunt) are attached to a removable aluminum sheet in case any maintenance is required. 2. I don’t have enough experience to lay wire...

Gladiator Pop-Up Pass Through Camper Build

I built a 100Ah lithium system for my fridge, diesel heater, water pump, LED lights (2), and phone charging (pics, music). I generally estimate that I can run for 3 days without charging. Keep in mind that 100Ah of lithium is much different than lead acid (I’m sure you already knew that)...

    Plywood thickness for sleeping platform.

It was likely the cheapest stuff from the big box store. It was covered in carpet, so cosmetics were not a priority and I was pretty sure it wasn’t going to get wet. The platform did very occasionally see a little water leak in from the shell that dried quickly and did not harm it. After 5ish...

    Plywood thickness for sleeping platform.

We used 3/4” plywood for the sleeping platform in our Tacoma for many years with no issue. It was (3x) 25”x58” to create a 75”x58” sleeping space. It supported ~400lbs when we were sleeping on it (2 humans, 2 smallish dogs) and carried our lighter items when we drove around. There were no...

Specifics? Like most of us, I’m always shopping for the next set of tires.

Best Cheap Air Compressor for Tire Inflation at the Trail Head?

Viair 88P? Mine did the job for a number of years without ever hitting its duty cycle shutoff. Probably equivalent to the MV50.

Super Strong fabric adhesive suggestions please....

@The Artisan & @dstefan - Specifics on which VHB is being recommend? Lots of options and I don’t think the big box store version is going to cut it.

    Camp Stove Carry Bag

Are the dimensions similar to any of the Camp Partner stoves? There are a few third party offerings there. I recently searched for a bag for a Lodge cast iron griddle and found quite a few small canvas companies that I had never heard of before. It may be worth seeing if there’s any small...

Gladiator Pop-Up Pass Through Camper Build

I think those Bed Rugs look cozy, quiet, and warm… one big dirt magnet, but I think they can be hosed out, no? I have no experience with them. We have hard surfaces for the floor and vertical pieces and carpet on the bench tops. We recently started camping with a cordless dustbuster style vacuum...
