As an owner of a 99 Freightliner, also, I am following along to learn more about what you find.

2009 Chevy Medium Duty 4x4 Kodiak Ambulance conversion

That's a super clean-looking rig! Welcome to the MD ambo club. I'm sure I won't be alone in following along.

M2 Freightliner Ambulance Conversion Project. 2007 Crew Cab

Great plan, Oz! We're putting ours in that same spot, so we'll learn from you. Our plan is a shower with a "composting" toilet, as well. In that particular spot on our rig, there's a door on the back where they'd load oxygen tanks. We plan to mount the propane water heater on the inside of...

M2 Freightliner Ambulance Conversion Project. 2007 Crew Cab

Damn, Oz, I've been a bit absent and missed all the fun! Love the recent additions... except for the scorpion, of course. But that probably climbed out of the yard. :-)

M2 Freightliner Ambulance Conversion Project. 2007 Crew Cab

Good call on that MidNite Solar charge controller. It's top quality stuff and I love the company. The founders have a cool back story, too.

Is it feasible to do a budget-friendly FL60 build?

Hi David, we bought a 1999 FL60 ambulance last summer. Not a flatbed, but it may give you some idea of what can be done in that budget. We paid $18,500 for ours, from a refurbishing ambo dealer, so it had new batteries and new tires and everything worked. I drove it straight from Philly to...

Building a Light Weight Low Profile Roof Rack

That's really nice! What are those flush-mount LED side lights? I've not seen those, but like them... a lot!

Swiss Army, our 1985 Saurer 6DM build.

Nice! We're in Flag, just up the hill. So, let us know if you're ever up this way. We'd love to see it and would trade a bit of welding for a tour. :-) I'd be interesting in learning more about the tank dimensions, too. I'm getting to the "add tankage to our rig" stage. ross at...

out with the old in with the new

That, sir, was a great read - from the technical build info, to the quality work, to the great outdoor shots... thank you for taking the time to do this. Waaaay back in there, you showed your long pipe cheater and breaker bar for lug nuts. You mentioned, perhaps, needing a 1-inch breaker. I...

LED flashlights that use regular batteries or rechargeable? (early 2017 edition)

I realize the focus (no pun intended) here is on lensed/reflector flashlights, and I'm a fan too. I have several Streamlights, all using CR123s. But, I bought an $8 Nebo C-O-B pocket clip worklight last year and, damn, that thing is useful. The clip has a magnet and we now have one clipped to...

M2 Freightliner Ambulance Conversion Project. 2007 Crew Cab

Nice, Oz! We had the same "organized mess" beneath our console. The console was huge, so getting everything compressed or cut out was a bit of a challenge. That bed looks nice in there. And I love your red toe nail polish, too. Matches the new truck.

DIY Arduino & Raspberry Pi Security System

Hi! Cool idea. But, having worked with Arduino for some prototype production automation, I wouldn't trust Arduino boards for something that required long-term stability and reliability. They occasionally choke and need a reboot, which may not suit your needs as a security hub. Arduino's...

    AGM Overcharging?

You're getting great info and these guys know their stuff. I love reading everything they write... especially the descriptive "chemistry set in a box." I'm jumping in only because of the mention (above) of a gel battery option. With flooded lead acid (your "normal" battery style) or...

    4 LED's 2 switches ??

So, this is the one true one? :) Seriously, though, I've been looking at these for our ambo conversion's scene lights. But the reviews of the Anzo unit, on Amazon, aren't great. Based on your "love it" we'll get one, unless you know of one you recommend over this one. Thanks, Ross and Kara

That's all that crazy Australian guy! We're staying 2-wheel drive.... 😜

From Freightliner ambulance to RV - we hope!

So... I bought two replacement lenses for the Whelen rear box lights. The light units (one on each side) are aluminum and have three lights with lenses... one clear, one red (brake and tail) and one amber with a black arrow-shaped border. My amber arrows were cracked. They are Whelen Model 64...

From Freightliner ambulance to RV - we hope!

Thanks Bob. That sounds like a good idea and I also read that the cable should be wound on, at least the first time, with about 1000 pounds of tension. Fortunately, we have just such a telephone pole!

From Freightliner ambulance to RV - we hope!

Ah, damn... I should have thought to ask uncle Oz! You and Scooter have all the cool things. BTW... have you got a shock absorber recommendation for our rigs? It looks like a Gabriel FleetLine (85918) or Gas SLX (89449) are common. But I'm guessing you know the one true one!
