M2 Freightliner Ambulance Conversion Project. 2007 Crew Cab

Hey Bevan, I have had lots of PEX experience in my past life (plumbing everything from whole houses to remodels). It's amazing stuff and even frozen, it will expand without bursting. The fittings are a different matter... they may rupture, if frozen, just like any other fitting... so, I'd stay...

M2 Freightliner Ambulance Conversion Project. 2007 Crew Cab

Thanks and, no, not a rush at all! I've been too busy to do much (any...) ambo work lately. Just ping me when you're back and we'll settle up.

Hi Bob... I didn't want to PM you and swoop Bevan. If he wants this, he gets first dibs. But if not, I'll gladly take the set! I can pay you via email and give you our UPS account number, if that's easy for you. Let me know what the Oz says! Thanks both, Ross

From Freightliner ambulance to RV - we hope!

Hi and thanks! I'm always open to coffee, as it's nice to meet new local folks. But, I've never had an F350 or camper. Hmmm... but, there are tons of our FBomb stickers floating around town. I see them in all kinds of places, which is kind of fun. I'm guessing someone had a sticker on their...

Nicely done! And, damn, that red truck sure looks pretty.

M2 Freightliner Ambulance Conversion Project. 2007 Crew Cab

Rain? Pffft... I can't even see the front of our Freightliner under the snow! I also replaced the foam in our Bostrom driver's seat and it made a huge difference. But, I did have to modify it a bit to fit the seat cover on the base. On ours, the cover had a flap sewn in about midway back on...

    Battery Jumper cable recommendations?

A definite +1 on this! I've now had a plug, in the grill, of two vehicles and there's not much nicer than plugging your jumper cables (or winch) in to the plug and taking care of business. No opening the hood, even. It will spoil you and you'll almost look for people to jump start...

Thanks Guidolyons, for correctly answering while I was away! I appreciate it, really. :-) Yes, the uprights have 3/4-inch pipe (not, tube, so the inside diameter is 3/4-inch) and there are 3/4-inch pipe sections welded to the frame. 6-inch long 3/4-inch grade 8 bolts pass through those two...

From Freightliner ambulance to RV - we hope!

Well... after the holidays and the rush at our business, and the snow or rain, and a welding project for a friend, (and a bit of a fall down some stairs), I had a clear day at home today to work on the ambulance. Today's project was the elk guard (or, for Ozrockrat, the roo guard). Since these...

From Freightliner ambulance to RV - we hope!

Thanks for the story, Oz. I'm not laughing, honest... Actually, I'm just glad I'm not alone in the cruise control head smacking! I've been pretty busy with travel and business stuff here. And, it's snowed twice recently. So, we haven't made much progress on the build. But, that didn't...

    Freightliner ambulance conversion project.

Lime green! One of the biggest laughs I ever had was when I heard a Phoenix fire fighter, which used red trucks, comment on the local Rural-Metro department, which used the lime green trucks. He said, "they're not ripe yet."

    Super Singles for F450

I can't help you with the wheel suggestions, because we were able to use stock 10-bolt semi-truck wheels on our ambulance. But, I can tell you that we have been quite pleased with our 22.5 inch tires. So if you end up with a 22.5 inch rim, 9-10 inches wide, take a look at the DynaCargo tires...

That may be, but it's more likely I got the year wrong! I slept a night between taking the pics and posting. :)

I saw a lifted VW bug this week! I do enjoy my work, sometimes... The founder of this crane company bought that bug, new, back in 61 and ever since it's ridden around on the top of that support truck, so the crane operator and rigger/s had local transportation. Very cool!

Thank you. We are quite pleased with them. We looked at the much more expensive Michelin, but thought these were worth a try. They're rated for 80 mph and seem quite well built. They ride well on the freeway and worked well for us on our trail explorations, so far. These aren't nearly as beefy...

From Freightliner ambulance to RV - we hope!

Thanks, Bob! I'm sorry it's taken me exactly one month to get back to you and acknowledge this helpful info. It's very much appreciated, despite my delayed response. Kara and I have been far too busy with work, business, and family stuff to make much (make that, really any) progress on the...

Hey, Oz! I do love that white lightning bolt racing strip on the side... I just showed that off to Kara. Very nice, with the red. As far as the lettering goes, I have two words for you. Whizzy Wheel! Get a couple and they'll take those letters/decals off without damaging the paint at all...

It's got everything you've wanted! Except cruise control... That, sir, is a nice looking rig. Love it - even love the roof-mounted remote control spotlight. I've looked at those and they're damned spendy. Can I assume it'll be making a trek to Flagstaff for new bumper mounts?
