From Freightliner ambulance to RV - we hope!

Pics... I tried! :-) Trying again here! So, that one above shows the terminal strips which had been screwed (two high) to the sidewalls of the console's wood box. And, here, is the back of a switch panel - this looks worse than it really is. I needed to relocate 8 or 9 switches, but...

You guys and your big-budget hydraulics... I'm jealous! :) Here are the photos missing from above. First, the exposed terminal strips and the mess remaining after I removed the center console body: Damn... I keep getting an "upload failed" error. Last night, I thought it was due to our...

Pat, let me know your thoughts on them. I've used hydraulic or electric crimpers at work... they're great, but spendy.

Well, it's been electrical play time. We drove to Salt Lake City with the winch installed, but not connected. Granted, we never went (far) off road and this was a highway trip... but still, I hated having it half done. So, I got that done and made lots of progress in the cab. First, the...

    Shorty Radio Antenna

Hi. I understand you're asking about a specific shorter screw-on option... but, we just had to remove an external antenna (where a roof rack will interfere) and got a soft wire antenna that works pretty darn good, for under $8. We routed it inside the windshield, along the upper console, and...

Vehicle camera monitors. Multiplex vs. HD?

We're pretty impressed with this system, for $200. The cameras seem well-built, the monitor is clear, the cables are plenty long for our medium duty ambulance conversion, and it works really well. You can press a mode button (on either the monitor panel or the included remote control) to...

We're in Salt Lake City... this was the first "long" trip with the rig since the new tires/wheels were installed. The thing did great! We're really pleased with the drivability of it and we got 10.5 mpg, from Flagstaff to SLC. Here are a few trip and event pics, which might better explain the...

Ha! No offense at all. In fact it's a good reminder and cautionary tale for others. But we have a commercial vehicle policy on this and it's registered under the business. So they know that there are logos and it's insured for that use. Certainly, however, if you have logos on a vehicle under a...

Hell no! Your new Big Red rig is beautiful! I'd never sully that with my piss poor skills... 😜

All those techy gadgets look fun! But, I'll stick with the "remove an interior light" option. I didn't get to the part which required finding the roof tubes. This painting thing took longer than expected... but, doesn't everything? I'll post some photos of some of the other less-sexy things...

A bit of progress... We used a projector to lay the FBomb logo image on the side, for the masking. The door text was done with stencils, cut by a place in California... www.decalboy.com - they did a nice job on those stencils and shipped them super fast. And they were pretty reasonable, I think.

From Freightliner ambulance to RV - we hope!

All good ideas and, while the simple (removing a light) sounds best, I do like the more complicated technically challenging options. :) Perhaps I can repurpose that x-ray bone density scanner that our local university surplus sales warehouse has sitting there... haha! Have a great weekend...

Thanks Pat... you know how sometimes you look at something that's obvious to someone else? I guess I'm too far in the weeds. I was focused on finding the roof studs (rafters?) from the outside. So much so, that I forgot about those inside lights. Thanks, sir!

From Freightliner ambulance to RV - we hope!

Focused, with a deadline... yes, indeed! Hey, quick question for you ambo folks. Is there a way to locate studs within the walls or roof, through the skin? I want to anchor into the roof studs. I know the wall and roof spacing (16" and 12", right?), but how can I find the reference stud...

Did someone say something about turning KETO 1 into a sauna, by painting it black? :) Granted, it did get to 60 degrees today... Anyway, I did get the front end substantially done last week. The brush/roo/elk/zombie guard is done, the winch is physically installed (permanently now...

    GMR Ambulance Build

Welcome to the ambulance club! I have two words for you... Whizzy Wheel! https://www.amazon.com/Wheel-Pinstriping-Removing-Diameter-Whizzy/dp/B00FJF0O2K You'll hear different things about the reflective decals. Either "they came right off for me" or "what a bear!" I found both situations on...

Sauna? Haha! Read right after I got back in from scraping the ice off the windshield and taking the snowplow off the front of my truck... :) For the color reasoning, you'll need to look back at the earliest posts. We have business reasons for black. But, we think we'll be okay. It's got 3...

From Freightliner ambulance to RV - we hope!

Well, we finally had a few days for some progress... it's now black - rat rod satin, to be exact. Now, to paint the rims and put stuff back on. Then, some bed liner on selected areas and logos. This weekend would be good for that, if the weather hadn't taken a turn for the crummy... soon...

    1994 International 4700 Conversion Begins

Are those the little LED lights we found, that fit in the recesses of the bumper? I have not even tested mine so I have no idea how bright they are. That's good to know they're OK.
