From Freightliner ambulance to RV - we hope!

Hi Pat, the input shaft is "wobbly" so you're right, it is sagging a bit in the photo. It seems to be by design - the input shaft and bearing float, and are retained by a snap ring. One reviewer commented favorably about that, and he disassembled it and re-lubed it. Overall, it seems quite...

That, my friend, is a nice bit of kit! As said, you've got all the cool toys. I did a bit of Googling and didn't find pricing, but I'm guessing it's got to cost an arm and a (insert appendage of your choice)... For the $80 we paid, I'm pretty impressed. It even came with an extender, so you...

I also had to cut our rails today, but they're aluminum and rubber so it was easy. I like the look of yours, even if it was harder to modify. I wish I could weld aluminum and help you out... But, if you need any steel welding done (stainless or carbon) just come on up to the cool mountains.

Pat, I'll do a bit of testing on that tomorrow. For today, I used it to tighten the lug nuts and I was cautious not to overtorque them. It seems to work quite well. But, tomorrow, I'll tighten a couple as much as I can with the 3/4-inch drive and a 5 foot pipe... then I'll see if Kara...

From Freightliner ambulance to RV - we hope!

Pat, here's the one we bought: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MI0DOW6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It was well-reviewed, but there are others which look similar (like the one Bob found). I haven't had a chance to use it on the wheel nuts yet, but it looks like a nice tool...

That helps immensely! Not running on, at all - I appreciate the detail. Thanks for the link and the additional photo. We like how you did that and we will be copying it, down to the same flare material. I may not have to worry about the AZ heat as much as you (you ought to come up...

Thanks, Bob - I also found that sticker in ours and we've got a 270A alternator as well. I didn't expect a 200A to be a direct replacement, but with the removal of emergency lighting and a change to LED inside, I figured it might be a useful spare. But, as it turns out, I didn't spot it in...

Okey dokey... I'm back in the States and catching up on family time. But, that doesn't mean I can't sneak in a bit of progress on KETO 1. Before leaving the States, for my 3-week trip, I had listed that beastly Westerbeke generator on CraigsList. We need that space more than we need the...

Hey Scooter, I'm going to need that same fender flare material. I see it sold in lots of places. Is it all the same, or did you find one you liked more than the others? Yours looks great, so if you'd share your source I'll get the same stuff.

Hey, all of you... you know who you are, those crazy medium duty ambulance people... We just wanted to thank you for the inspiration you've given us, with your build threads (to get us thinking) and your input after we started. I just read a great (and very long) thread about a custom build...

GREAT... Scooter, you had to bring up the cruise control thing again. Don't you know to let a sleeping Oz lie? :) Bobrenz, I guess your son is 4 times smarter than I am. Because I think I made it 1200 miles before figuring that out! And, yes, Pat it works best when turned on! I'm heading...

Healeyjet... I just found this thread, sadly too late to have seen your rig at the Expo. But, I just read through all 55 pages and finding that you're selling it, after the dramatic build, was like watching a movie where the lead dies unexpectedly. :( Anyway, thanks for taking the time to...

Haha! Yes, they're cute little blocks, aren't they? I had to cross the street to look more closely. I thought they were wood. They appear to be aluminum and they're about the size of a large pack of gum. Cute little blocks, you... Now your rig has manly blocks, Oz!

Landcruiser 6x4 + Ambulance body + convert to extra cab from 12,000 km away = ???????

Damn, Oz, I'd read through your other thread (and follow it for updates) but didn't know you had another project going on, too - from very far away. That's got to be tough to manage. I'll follow along on this, too.

True beans! That's why we plan to paint first, then run a bead around the edge. The tape's a good idea and I've used that before, but I hope to not have a lot of excess... it just looks bad. I'm pretty good with a caulking gun and I plan to cut the nozzle the right width and then (holding it...

Hi Scooter421 - so, are those 295/75 22.5 tires? I saw an earlier post mentioning that size, but wasn't sure if that's what you ended up with. And, it looks like you're sticking with DWR, right? And those fit without any lift modification, right? I've been reading the tire and wheel posts in...
