First Foray into 4Runners - My 1st Gen Build

potentially could lift the top up perpendicular to the truck for more room... that might limit the "one man job" opportunity a bit. Hardest part of the solution I used was getting the 2x4 under the topper. Usually, one person lifts from inside, the other slides it between the topper and bed...

First Foray into 4Runners - My 1st Gen Build

How low profile do you need? Used a kayak hoist and a couple of 2x4s for this topper rack

Tired of Old Junk but no Interest in Newer 4x4s

??? never dropped a pan for a HG on a 22rx... IMHO, the biggest PITA is the wire and hose routing that forces the intake to be taken off in pieces...

Tired of Old Junk but no Interest in Newer 4x4s

I did 6x more headgaskets on 22re’s than 3vze’s…. Really like my 94 4runner after lift and DOA ported heads. Wish I had never sold that one.

$4k for head gaskets? You have a 6.0 powerstroke swapped in there or something? ?

Tired of Old Junk but no Interest in Newer 4x4s

actually... people make a lot of money using debt as a tool. I'm anti-debt as the next person, but it is a tool that can be used to produce wealth and reduce risk. And you missed the part about a (presumed newish) vehicle with payment can me more consistent on the budget than a "clunker"...

I question any base vehicle being 100% cheaper than their fully loaded version. ? Having said that -people on this page, myself included, have spent well over 100% of a list price on modifications (over time).

Tired of Old Junk but no Interest in Newer 4x4s

Burnout is real. Fully get it. I oscillate between wanting a vehicle with a warranty that I don’t worry about and the vehicle I have in my minds eye… Hence why the stable grows and nothing gets finished. Lol

    1987 toyota pickup

22re, w56, 4.88 with ~32's is an awesome combo, IMHO. Ran it for year (1990 singlecab)

    Pirelli tire question

All about managing the tire pressure. I have E’s on the Tacoma, D’s on the 3rd gen 4runner, C’s on the 5th gen 4Runner… ride about the same. The fact that the 10 plies are lighter probably boards well for the ride as well

Building 1997 Toyota T100 4x4 into my adventure rig

IMHO, easier/faster/cheaper to go Dana44/50/60 up front. Frame rails are a great location for easy leaf sprung SAS.

    Slee Off-road/OME lift.

agree with this. If no lift needed/desired, just buy a set of Bilsteins and be done.

Building 1997 Toyota T100 4x4 into my adventure rig

According to whom and by what definition? Simply because you don't like it? I've owned this kit and i've modified this kit. You'd be very hard pressed to get more travel out of the HiTrac w/o custom axles. Superlift did a good job of changing the bumpstop mounts to improve over factory, and...

Building 1997 Toyota T100 4x4 into my adventure rig

Have those who come out swinging against the lift ever owned a vehicle with this lift? Thought not. Nice build. I still recommend the 5.29’s for 33’s or taller with the 5vze/auto combo.

Detroit Locker: Looking for Real World Experience

owned a lot of tru-trac equipped vehicles. I love the TT. I've had a few problems with them (search "jack factory" on 'mud), but overall, very good solution for a DD... I currently own 3. :)

Detroit Locker: Looking for Real World Experience

First time I’ve ever heard the “built for street racing” argument. I agree that a selectable locker is probably better (owned many ARB’s and elockers) for most people, once a person learned how a Detroit reacts, it’s very easy to accommodate it into driving habits.
