Living in a tent for two weeks?

2 weeks is no time at all :) Plenty of guys in my industry spend most of the year under canvas, their tents do get kind of "pimped out" however (decent bed, bar fridge, sofa, aircondioner) They only use tents as its too hard to get demountable buildings into the exploration area. Sean

FJ60 For Sale on CL- thoughts?

If it was originally a diesel, it's not an FJ60... Would be a HJ60 (or BJ60?) I dare say it would go better offroad if it still had the 2H in it, but each to their own. Sean

Increase Traction w/o a rear locker? How?

I'll echo what others have said about using the brakes, was quite common to fit independant handbrakes on VW Beetles for rallying. Could also do the same thing with line lockers on your normal brakes... Below is a technique that you may not beleive will work, and it only works in some...

    Need FJ60 advice.

Around here they drive the new troopy's with the Diesel V8, they've got some pretty good royalties negotiated with the mining company....

Lunch on the Trails.. What do you eat??

Sangas are easy and quick, personal favourites are tuna/cheese/mayo or turkey spam/cheese/mayo. In winter you cant go past some good manifold cooking, hot potatoes or pies/pasties/sausage rolls wrapped in alfoil and wedged into hot crevices on the engine:chef: Yesterday I had T bone steak...

Electric Winch Vs. 10K lbs. Come along

Tirfor (spelling may be off) have a very good reputation, the older models with the external shear pins were more convenient than these newer internal shear models. They will do everything a vehicle mounted winch will do, but from every angle, not just the front. And if your silly enough to...

    World Travel: The Fuel Challenge

The maps are out dated and should show Australia as having <10ppm of Sulfur content (as in the posted tables) Diesel is to my mind the expedition fuel of choice, but you are in my opinion better off with a good older engine than a new fangled one! Sean

    Need FJ60 advice.

HJ60's with their 2H motor aren't exactly known for their reliability once turbo'd The 12HT (correct me if I've got that designation wrong) verion that was also sold in the 60 was not just a 2H with a snail on the side, it had different internals, as shown in comparison photos in a magazine a...

    Nissan Patrol

With careful wheel placement, and possibly some traction aids (ie lockers) you will be able to get an independant front vehicle as far as a solid front vehicle. The biggest problem with IFS is that it tends to leave one front wheel hanging in the air, while a solid axle forces that same wheel...

    60 Series Suspension Question

May I perhaps suggest that your Fox's aren't all that great? Or aren't set up for your specific use? I could certainly feel the difference on my 60 when I put new shocks on, would be shocking without shocks Sean

    For Fellow 70-Series Lovers

    For Fellow 70-Series Lovers

Even the very latest 7x series vehicles (Wagon, Troopy and Trayback) don't have ABS, Airbags, Stability Control, or beepers that go off with a different tone for every reason (something about US cars that iritates me) They're an old fashioned 4wd and I guess most seppos just aren't interested....

    Nissan Patrol > Google

once it opens there's a line running across with arrows, it should run up and down the road normally, but in this case it runs across it (not sure why). Clicking these moves you back and forward in the series, normally this moves you up and down the road but because they were bogged it just...

    I need help/advice on a JDM Nissan...

Not sure on the specs, but these are as common as landcruisers in Aus, so a visit to www.google.com.au will deliver more than you'd ever want to know. Got a feeling they can tow 3500kg with a braked trailer. Sean
