That is very cool. There where OEM boxes like that made out of plastic. I've only seen them on Ebay but they bonny look as useful as this.

For mobile DX, 'Ideal' would be the Icon IC-7000 or the Yaesu FT-857D... but to be clear mobile is not ideal for DX. Any antenna you run while mobile will be severely compromised. That not to say you shouldn't do it. Also you will need to upgrade your license to use the lower bands of course.

I just noticed the SBB-5 has a open coil in the middle. I try to avoid these because they act as a hook and grab branches. Just something to keep in mind....
