Dual battery install 05 GMC Sierra with pics

Awesome...those small volt meters and USB ports draw a surprising amount of vampire current. I'd suggest putting them on a switch if the truck will be left for a while. Another tip...put a little grease the anderson connectors under the hood/exposed. It'll keep them happy for a lot longer. Just...

AGM battery quality vs cost. Do your research.

I like your approach - many overspend trying to keep up with the Joneses! Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk

AGM battery quality vs cost. Do your research.

50Ah out of 208Ah is about 24% discharge. A very benign application. That will give you quite a great cycle life. And I bet you recharge it everytime too. Any LA will do fine. If all you draw is 50Ah, you won't really notice EOL until hit about 40% residual capacity....a 208Ah LA with such a low...

AGM battery quality vs cost. Do your research.

This guy gets it...AGMs are superior in just about every way in applications that MATTER to people on THIS site - mobile APPLICATIONS. Optima, Odyssey, etc all use an AGM style construction. AGMs are tightly packed and the acid held tightly within the mat and are highly resistant to vibration...

Duracell !2v Grp 31 AMG back at Sams Club...$179

Awesome OP...thx for commenting too. Many times we don't hear back from folks that try these batteries (or any other long term uses. These are great batteries. Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk

    Battery Isolator Location?

Hmmm...yes I missed it in the first statement, but caught it in the 2nd. Said ground motor/chassis. If all the connections between battery, engine, chassis, and your load (assuming it is connected to chassis,), you should be fine. If it isn't and the return is still finding another path, you...

    Battery Isolator Location?

Install the proper sized ground straps and cable between battery and engine. Problem solved. It is highly recommended to install big cables b/c so many folks never upgrade the batt to chassis, motor/alternator to chassis, body to chassis, etc... Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk

Unsprung weight & grenading weak rear diff - Wheel/Tire consideration

Large rotating mass impacts bearing and ball joints the most. Then arms, bushings and the like...(in that order). Shock loading (peeling out in dirt then hitting pavement, rocking up/down rocks, throttle) breaks diffs. Big tires do excerbate shock loading... The 8" diff breaks because of shock...

    Soft vs. Hard Shackles

Keep one hard shackle in your kit - there are places / uses for them (i.e. abrasion, cuts etc). Get several soft shakes - you can use them 90% of the time. Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk

Using a flooded starter battery for dual battery install and some deep cycling

And so $/lb of steel for a 50 gallon drum is far cheaper than a typical truck fuel tank...but let's be real. Only relavent (1) have the space/desire/need to carry that much lead (2) want to deal with the acid leaks/spills/corrosion that inevitably happens with FLA (3) want to spend $400 on...

Duracell !2v Grp 31 AMG back at Sams Club...$179

Just an update on these batteries... installed 2017 (Feb date code) - so call it 4yrs or so...still going strong. I have the Grp 31 as a starting battery under the hood of my Jeep JKU. It has been abused with many many discharges well past 50% (yeah yeah....50% is the limit...well, only if you...

Dual battery install 05 GMC Sierra with pics

Get some ferrule crimps...it'll help keep the wire nice and tight in the Victron terminals. Tough to justify if you are only doing this once...but if you do other projects too, it is a nice tool/setup to have. Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk

Dual battery install 05 GMC Sierra with pics

While it is good practice to have the Victron close to the battery, it is not the end of the world if ya can't Just upsize the wire to compensate for any voltage drop. You'll lose the benefit of accurate temp comp, but that can be remedied with another gadget! (Remote temp/voltage sensor). The...

Dual battery install 05 GMC Sierra with pics

Just saw your install thread. Looking good. Are you planning on putting the Victron under the hood? I'd suggest finding a more protected location - they last longer than way. Another tip: I've had to put a small amount of dielectric grease on my 'open' blue sea fuse blocks/terminals to keep...

Using a flooded starter battery for dual battery install and some deep cycling

Well I hope the AGM works out for you...take care of them from time to time by putting them on a charger (all LA, regardless of type benefit from this BTW). I usually run a charger if any of my vehicles sit for more than a couple of weeks ... any LA charged solely by alternator sees an overnight...

Using a flooded starter battery for dual battery install and some deep cycling

One other thing...get a solenoid (nothing fancy) to manually disconnect / disable it when you turn the truck off (or starting). Energize it/close the solenoid after you start the truck to charge the AGM...run all your Aux from the existing Grp 31 AGM. Starter battery is kept happy, ya get MORE...
