    Grand Staircase-Escalant National Monument

This pic is from 04/26/2008, how does the water level look to you? Bear in mind that the bathtub ring you see is 4.7 miles away from where I took this photo:

    Canyon DeChelly/UT/AZ March 19-23rd 2008

Piute Pass is HIGHLY scenic and you feel like you are the only one to ever drive it. Some places are narrow, it looks like ATV's are the most common users of the route. A very adventerous, very scenic loop that rewards you with a beautiful campsite on Lake Powell. One of my favorites!

    Canyon DeChelly/UT/AZ March 19-23rd 2008

I zipped up a .gpx file with tracks for this loop to show you where it is. Here is Good Hope Bay, a designated vehicle camping area: The drive over Blue Notch Pass is scenic and easy as long as it has not rained hard recently. I've seen cars at the bay that probably took that route. That is...

    Canyon DeChelly/UT/AZ March 19-23rd 2008

Arch Canyon is a worthwhile detour on 95 between 261 and 191. If you have not driven there, this year will probably be your last chance. Another option is Good Hope Bay on Lake Powell. An easy drive over Blue Notch Canyon, or a more adventurous trek over Piute Pass and down Red Canyon. Then...

    Canyon DeChelly/UT/AZ March 19-23rd 2008

That's all Navajo Reservation, you are not really supposed to camp at large. Why not stay at either the free campground at CdC or Goulding's Lodge in Monument Valley? It's only a 2 hour drive between the two.

    campsite pics..lets see um

I had dinner with some friends right there last October. Engine cooked lasagne, enjoyed while admiring the acrobatics of ravens in the updraft a few feet in front of us. My wife spotted a bobcat on some rocks at the edge to our right. We went stalking with cameras but got skunked, finding lots...

    Good Snow Chains?

I believe the company is German, but these days the actual product could be made anywhere... including China. They do list a Chinese office on their webpage... http://www.rud.com/en/unternehmen/weltweit.html You could always give Bill Burke a call and ask him. I do wish I had a set of 4...

    Good Snow Chains?

This is a good deal on a GREAT set of tire chains: http://www.bb4wa.com/articles/Chains.htm He only sells them in a set of 4. If I didn't already have one pair of RUD chains I would go with his deal.

    Garmin MicroSD uploading of maps

    1) It is nice to have the original ($100+) Mapsource disc safe at home, in case anything happens to my GPS or the Micro sD card storing the data. 2) Blank high capacity Micro sD cards are cheap... I just got a 2gb card at Costco for 27 bucks. 3) I can put whatever combination of Mapsource...

    Canyon DeChelly/UT/AZ March 19-23rd 2008

Hwy 95 will take you right past Arch Canyon... home to many indian ruins, a perennial stream, soaring sandstone walls and pondorosa pines. Really cool campsite at the end, one of my favorites anywhere... This will probably be the last chance you get to drive up there. The Monticello...

Canyon de Chelly, Labor Day weekend

Mr. Moody and Ali, I remember remember wearing jeans all day when we were there on Labor Day and not being too hot. Keep in mind I live in shorts for 6 months out of the year. March may still be a little cold down in those canyons due to the lack of sunlight and the funneling action that takes...

Nikon D40x or Canon Powershot S5IS

I can't speak for the S5is but I got my wife an S3is. It is tiny and easy to carry but capable of getting some nice photos. These are photos (and a video) that I would not have gotten from a bigger camera because I would not have bothered to carry a bigger camera on this trip. Night mode...
