I was blowing a tire almost every time to Rausch Creek, PA. Once I was on the spare Ill call it quits for the weekend. SO, two spares was cheaper than flatbed trailer for weekend adventures. One spare under the LR3 and one on the roof. Then I stopped airing down to 28psi. I have been doing...
Some days 126K feels like too many miles...but I recently tightened up the expo rack, replaced the LCA, and new tires. Squeaks are all gone and drives as good as new. :-D
@Eniam17 ARB only offered a rear locker for the LR4's for a short time. Too bad, cause I love mine in the LR3. Expeditionportal's LR4 got one and there is a review, but the ARB RD218 documentation was revised that is "DOES NOT FIT LR4". Maybe it was only some LR4's that it was incompatible...
You can always use the air suspension and gravity to assist. I put wheel under and winch up as far as it can easily, then blocks under the spare tire, and lower the truck onto it. My hitch has to be coerced to lock in the same way because the oversized spare it slightly in the way.
I like there is the option for owners to go coils if the EAS goes to hell. When I lived in the NE - My EAS hated cold & wet conditions. Since moving south, I have run 275/65-18's (GY duratrac) everyday for years with no lift, no rub, and no problems. I only rise up +4" for the offroading...
The size you have on there is 32.5" diameter. Your much BIGGER problem would be that if you had an air suspension fault, you would not be able to drive on the bumpstops. GAP tool is pretty much a must have!
The biggest you can go at stock height without rubbing is 275/65r18. Im on my 3rd set of goodyear duratracs. Two minor mods to facilitate this: I zip tied the left (driver) front ride height sensor wire from the outside of the frame to the top of frame rail. If you have 3rd row heat, there are...
The Kenwood system is still a good upgrade. I have had it since 2008 and still works flawless. I would have swapped it out for a tablet, but haven't figured out how to recreate the awesome relay switch feature. The K1000 has 4 relays.
Good luck with the install. Let me know if you have any...
Eddie, If you figure out how to get one here, I know two more SML locals interested in doing the same. 6x6 defender would be awesome!! -Doug (from emerald bay)
I overland my LR3 with a Lexus GX and Rubicon Unlimited at least a couple times a year. Both the Lexus and Wrangler owners drool over the LR3 fold flat seats and no rear wheelwell intrusions for sleeping. I keep up just fine in all terrain and surprisingly have proved the most reliable...
