FYI - I believe in 2000 they also started making Gen 3. So when you say yours is a 2000 year model....... you may end up with Gen 3 parts. I've had this happen to me when buying rotors for my truck. So I always say mine is a 99 model for any parts.
Just a thought could the timing have skipped a tooth or two? Did you put the tensioner pulley at highest tension before tightening it and pulling the pin that holds the tensioner stub(the thing that pushes the pulley)
Hi all, just got done replacing timing belt, water pump and valve cover gaskets on 98 Montero. Haven't put the belts on yet, but wanted to check so started it. Everything looks good except engine sounds louder at idle than before.
I checked EGR pipe, it was loose to valve cover so tightened...
Hi all thanks to all your help I was able to swap out water pump and timing belt. After putting the new timing belt, I noticed the timing marks are off. The camshaft/ crankshaft or some combination may have turned in the process (while we were working). I have the FSM and know the timing marks...
Thanks, Now stuck on removing crank pulley step. any idea what readily available tool I can use? Can't use the car crank method because the valve cover is out.
Thanks
Hi All,
Thanks I was able to take the compressor off and the plate over the water pump. Now I'm stuck at the removing crankshaft pulley step. The manual calls for a special tool, I tried Autozone and advance for some tool that might work... but no luck so far. Any ideas what generally available...
Hi all, I have searched for this everywhere but could not find a solution yet. The 4 wheel (green lights) or the CD lock (orange light) do not come on at all. I have checked the bulbs and they are good. Have also checked the fuse under the driver side dash. I've also put in a new 4x4 relay that...
That's the relay, should be easy to swap out. There's a video on youtube for taking out Dash.... not sure if it can be tackled by just taking out the glove box?
Hi all, there a Gen 2 at local salvage yard. I have a Gen 2.5. Is the center gauge console (Inclinometer, Oil Pressure, Volt Meter) plug and play between these generations?
Also are the headlights and Tail lights same?

It says it a 1980, but that shape looks like a much newer version like Gen 2. Guy is selling it in NJ wonder it's legal? But then it's on ebay.
FYI: The Isuzu troopers are known to have a flimsy auto transmission and Engine had Oil consumption issue but I think they addressed this in later models.
