    Air Ride Suspension

I converted my hummer to airbags (relocating the shocks and losing the springs). Being ind suspension it's a little different than what is being discussed here (monitoring height is difficult) but the ride quality improved drastically and I have variable height for offroad clearance and parking...

Lets see some full size pictures...

here's my hummer. It's a '97 with a few mods, it's a fun truck to drive and wheel. Replaced the springs with bags about a year and a half ago. Much smoother and has variable height. The int pic is from last weekend -- I'm in the middle of re-locating the radios to the rollbars. rb

35 deg is very impressive for a truck that big. Being at 35+ deg brings the pucker!

I don't know too much about Mogs (except that I love them) but the seemingly unimpressive factory specs of a hummvee (60% incline, 40% sideslope) is at continuous operation at full gvw without oil starvation in any gear box, and without fuel starvation or overheating. Curiosity just got the...

    Cool expo Hummer

those h3 campers look great. I originally wanted a humvee for a trail truck, but decided to go with an older civi hummer to avoid possible pain in the ******** of registration and safety issues. The civi trucks have steel doors, beefier roll bars, 3 point seat belts, and other saftey goodies (like...

    Cool expo Hummer

actually I think it's the opposite. AM General doesn't want US civilians to own them and has been trying to discourage it for years. Legal issues with the military trucks not being DOT approved me thinks. They sent out a letter years ago to all Hummer dealers telling them not to service or...

    Air bags for load management

I second this -- I had to do it in my truck when I went to a bag suspension (a little different application being independent suspension, but same problem).

    Hummer H2

The h3 is good stock, but can easily be made better with a few after market upgrades (beefier tie-rods, higher rear shock mounts, undercarriage protection, misc bumpers/winches/racks). here's the link to the h3 storage system. Very nicely done...

    Hummer H2

I don't think you'll find too many H2 owners (or fans) on this site. I owned one for a year and liked it but it wasn't made for the rougher wheeling I wanted to do. It's very comfy and much more capable that most will admit. you can go here to get more info or check out some pictures...

    Gelaendewagen

I was being serious -- it would be fun. Every truck has strengths and weaknesses in different areas. No truck can be the best at everything. I thought it would be fun to explore/compare these strengths and weaknesses. Like I said earlier, I've never seen them on a trail, just all blinged out...

drop me a line/pm me if you are ever in So Cal or Moab. I'd love to wheel with you and see how unprecedented your G is compared to my truck. rb

that was kinda my point...if you know how to drive a hummer you won't need lockers (just lube for the narrow spots!). How big of a tire can go on a gwagon? I love them but never see them on the trails here in so cal. I see tons blinged out in LA (hummers too to be fair...but I see those on...

though I am a big fan of g-wagons, that video is not a fair comparison of performance as the hummer did not have lockers and the driver did not know how to btm. rb

Story on Unimogs (and Tatras) used in fighting wildfires

Sounds like driver error to me -- I'm always amazed seeing inexperienced drivers in h1's stuck on easy obstacles, if you know how to drive one they will go anywhere they'll fit. It's rare to see one upside down -- they almost always stop in their flat sides. Where were the 300 gal tanks...

maybe what Antichrist is referring to is the independent suspension/portals of the hummer -- the a-arms are the lowest points (about 10.5" with stock tires). rb

    portal axles

Now I'm all confused (easy to do)! It just seems the halfshafts spin so slow when compared to the tires when I see videos of my truck climbing but your explanation makes sense, thanks. here's a mid '90's dealer video that is fun to watch which talks a bit about what you have said...

    portal axles

the stock torsen diffs in the hummer were about a 4.5:1 ratio until '99, when they had to go to a 2:1 bias ratio to allow for abs. And I think because of the 2:1 ratio in the geared/portal hubs everything (driveshafts, halfshafts, t-case, diffs) is actually turning slower, not faster? btm...

    don't give up on H2

forgot to add that those bumpers are made by Road Armor: http://www.roadarmor.com/site/hummer/ a bit over-kill imho! I bet that ambulance/h2 is pushing the gvw. All that stuff is really heavy and adds up quick. rb
