    Fuso on White Rim Trail

It's still new and I haven't ajusted the speedo for the larger diameter tires, so I don't have an MPG (diesel) yet. Hoping for 15mpg at 65mph, but more likely 15@55mph. I'm also thinking the new ultra-low sulphur fuel doesn't help mpg.

    16" or 17" 35X12.5 tires and wheels

I recently bought Toyo 315/75-16 MT (35in). They are 10 ply E rated (about 3800lb).

    Fuso on White Rim Trail

More video . . . Even less impressive video . . . Unfortunately my father-in-law didn't catch the Fuso on the steeper part of the climb, but only the end. It sure felt a lot more challenging than it now looks. The second vid is a Jeep Rubicon going up the same climb...

    Fuso on White Rim Trail

More pics Two of these shots are from Pucker Pass near Dead Horse Point. The Fuso climbed through the one difficult spot without trouble. The Chevy 4x4 got stuck. Ok, ok, the Fuso has much more aggressive tires so not a fair comparison. The limited slip diff on the Fuso performs very well...

    Fuso on White Rim Trail

Guys, I thought I would share with you a bit on my trip on the White Rim Trial (Canyonlands NP). The FG140 supported the food(beer) and equipment(bottle opener) of 12 firends/family for 5 days (4 camps) of mountain biking the White Rim Trial. This is the 5th time I've done this trip over the...

Helium Though it would save some weight, the helium comment was intended as a joke - d'oh.

    FG140 Subframe/Flatbed build

FUSO 4X4 Testing I got out to test the latest updates before heading off to the true test on White Rim and Moab. So far so good. By the way, the air springs in the back help support the subframe while there is no camper box to add rigidity. The air springs will be joined by a common air line...

    Lug wrench

Me too. I tried it out yesterday and it works nicely. A 3/4" pipe (plumbing variety) fits over the hex just right for adding a lever arm.

    FG140 Subframe/Flatbed build

Thanks for the interest . . . As for higher quality bolts, if I was close to the design limits then I would consider stronger/higher-quality bolts, but I'm not close. My entire camper should only weigh 5000lbs. One bolt could hold it in shear. I have 12 in the front, most of the weight will...

    FG140 Subframe/Flatbed build

Bolts are about 60% as strong in shear as in tension. Grade 8 bolts have a minimum tensile strength of 150KPSI (proof load @ 120KPSI). This is up to 4-5X stronger than no-grade bolts. Using the proof load, each 3/8in bolt can handle about 8000lbs (assuming cross section of major diameter)...

    FG140 Subframe/Flatbed build

Concerned? Chip - If you look at the WHOLE page from the manual, you can see this is an acceptable approach. Why be concerned if you don't know the load? How did you mount yours? Please post pics. The bolts are not in shear, but even if they were they could handle the load - 6 X 3/8-...

    FG140 Subframe/Flatbed build

Here are a few pictures of my in-progress flatbed build. That's me pretending to be a welder. Will initially use a temporary deck of plywood for a trip on the White Rim in 10 days (yes, i'm cutting it close). Should be a good first test of the subframe.

    Lug wrench

Wheel nuts I didn't see a 41mm socket in the Napa catelog and their website was missing a discription - the counter guy wasn't familiar with any of these products. I ordered an 41mm deep impact socket from McMaster Carr ($30). Do you know where (besides dealer) I could find additional wheel nuts?

    Lug wrench

Napa lug wrench I went to Napa this morning and ordered the 41mm (two-sided) socket. I could only find one product available in 41mm. Even my Bluebird's are smaller. Tom, the color coded torque limiting extension you mentioned costs $170 - ouch. It must be made from spring steel and then...

Tom, you just saved me a lot of running around - thank you for the valuable answer. My calipers measure 40.6mm (1.6in) across the flats.
