The International pipes are an essential modification in my opinion. The amount of power loss on mine from due to wear/leakage there was considerable.
I suggest you wrap those pipes while you have easy access unless you are in a salted road area. Makes a lot of difference to the noise level.
I used billet 6061 aluminum on the last Freightliner. Machines to suit the profile of the smaller block it replaced. No issues.
On this 22,000 lb truck I have 3” billet 6061 blocks on the front. Very minor axle wrap when loading up with the brakes applied but nothing noticeable when...
Another part of a project crossed off the list. To fit the transfer case in the middle (where my desire for common driveshafts overrules the ease of firmer) I had to relocate one of the air tanks. It has always pissed me off as it was the lowest part of the truck and sort of hung down like a...
They are an option on Freightliners but I would suggest any reasonable truck parts supplier such as Fleet Pride would be a good candidate.
One word of warning though. All 3 of the ones we have had on our Ambos have been loose, rattled and really annoy the passenger. Silastic or Sika Flex stops...
Thanks mate. I should of known to ask you about them. And here was me thinking I had come up with something unique and it’s been around for 10 years.
Luckily I had all the materials laying around. I would of been pissed at myself if I put out cash for an inferior single row chain product...
My original thought was the primary drive chain off a Harley and I also played with the double width chain from a Suzuki transfer case. Only because I had them around the shop. But the single row one works OK and most motorcycle shops will give you old ones for free.
I did check the price of...
"I'm curious if anyone is actually seeing an improvement in snow or mud traction when upgrading to a 35x12.50 single rear tire compared to the standard commercial dually sizes."
I cannot give good feedback on snow but definitely an improvement in mud. And much better with rocks and depressed...
One of the other modification that apparently was a necessity according to ”She Who Must Be Obeyed” was something to assist with getting into the cab now the truck is lifted a little. So I looked at electric step/running boards and various electric steps etc. but I was not happy with either the...
If you search on my posts from long ago you will find one on putting 35” SRW singles on a Quigley ambulance. It did require some massaging of the fender well but I did not have to shift the axle.
Not sure about being better in snow but there are a whole lot of advantages to SWR as long as you...
I have done this in a relative emergency when we caught more fish than would fit in the fridges. Only for a couple of days and it kept everything cold enough. The fish went into fridges. Another fridge did freezer/ice making duty and the food and beer went into the cooler.
Probably wouldn’t...
For the AC lines you should get someone who has a gas recovery unit to suck the gas out and then block off the lines. There is probably another condenser somewhere as well. Possibly under the vehicle.
For the heater lines you can block them off where they T off the lines in the engine bay...
My other time waster was a diesel heater. eBay special but it works great. It fit fairly neatly into the cabinet I have 2 x 10 gallon drinking water tanks so I snaked the exhaust around the back a bit to provide some heat for the tanks. I also used a “Y” pipe to duct some of the heat into the...
Also I grabbed a Milwaukee High Torque 1/2 impact. Man it is a great piece of gear. I usually have to break the lug nuts loose with a torque multiplier before the impact will work. This one breaks them loose on it 2nd highest setting without a problem. Rated at 1400 lbs breakout and 1100 lbs...
So while most of my time has been spent on LilRedAmbo and the Murphy bed project I have managed to cross a couple of items off my list (War and Peace novel size list).
The first was replacing a hub seal in the rear axle. (Where some knucklehead put the brake hose on wrong and dragged the brake...
I will be interested in hearing your comments on this. I have been eyeing it off for a while convincing myself it is needed for something (other than an extension of the 3D printer I bought on the illusion it would be good for stuff on the truck)
