I use gray primer, then a brace for an awl - just enough pressure to drag a line as you spin the tire. A long s as the finish hits the start it’s a very accurate reference point
then a tape measure, but you could even use a laser if you have something at the line for it to reflect from. It...
You probably know this already but if you want a slightly more accurate measurement you could do the spray paint ring around each tire tread, score a line in the paint as you rotate the tire, and use that to measure . It’s still rough of course compared to a shop

that unicat is a real beast
Quote:“ Now, with the bruisingly solid Unicats; their smaller cousins, EarthRoamers”
funny seeing an ER referred to as a smaller cousin
Are they selling it? I’m confused by the original post...
seems like a slide in camper and a utility truck body? Curious about suspension and how the camper articulates off road
Reading this thread is why I deleted my ‘build’ thread. Well I’m also not talented enough to have a build thread. Basically I decided I was gonna go my own way so why open it up for comment...I don’t live by committee and I do stupid things all the time. Can’t wait to see what you do with...
nice rig, enjoy the project! the wiring can be daunting but as you've discovered is manageable - I was able to get my schematic from wheeled coach, and that along with a multi-meter and wire tracer gets the job done. i love that the wiring is all labeled along the length of each wire too!
Okay thanks, I had only read about the metal ones the h1 guys cut down
that explains all the grease in there! I’d be tempted to keep them... but my build has been plagued with a serious imbalance and drivability problem that I’m still monkeying around with. FWIW i decided not to run my hdpe...
Only thought is that the wear seems excessive, and maybe is an indicator of the tire constantly flexing over the edge where the road grime collects (?).
I can only SWAG that it’s heat +flex that caused it, and that seems to point to under inflated. But really it’sa head scratcher
did the tread wear pattern show anything that could help diagnose?
Perfect actually front to back. Check out adventures_with_oso on Instagram he’s using the same wheels and drove all through S America
the only thing with these wheels on a Kodiak or top kick is that the steering arm on 4x4’s needs a notch ground into it for clearance.
not sure it helps but i'm selling a set of 5 mrap, with o-rings, valves, and inserts (HDPE). I got them from eastern surplus but swapped for some narrower staz wheels

pm if interested - i'm selling everything for less...
