haha i laughed... i may have to put this quote on my truck! I don't even remember what my original plan was but I know it didn't involve what it has become!!!
could you do a two tone gray/dark gray? that build is just gorgeous, love it
i hear the others re: visibility on the road and cooling etc. re: visibility that's easily solved with reflective striping / decals, or led marker lights so not a deal killer (aesthetic v. safety ... have both!)...
i'll be interested to see how it turns out. i did my hood/roof of the cab on my kodiak with the rustoleum roll-on idea... the internet makes it look so tempting but mine didn't turn out particularly great. I'm not painting it anytime soon but still consider what color i'd change to and what...
i walked into this pretty blindly - was on a road trip, got to thinking about my old days driving firetrucks, thought it could be cool to turn one into an RV ..... bought one a few weeks after I got back figuring 6 months maximum to be finished ... that was about 30 months ago. can't say yet...
that's going to be an absolute monster! how big are the fuel tanks? I'd guess being built for the military it has a good range and is probably not meant to go much over 60.
one concern / future project for my kodiak is to add another tank, or maybe dual saddle tanks in addition to the rear...
i went with motion windows dual pane, 2 new ones that i cut into the ambo, and replacing 3 in the doors that were single pane. i also doubled up the interior walls to try my best to break the thermal conduction between outside and inside - reused the ambulance material which is some sort of...
im near bellingham, wa (north of Seattle along the 5 between seattle and vancouver bc)
10 R 22.5 commercial tires - these only have about 250 miles on them
pictured are the tires i'm selling - these are size "10r22.5" (they are about 40.5" tall)
4 - Hankook Super Traction DH01 (new these are...
interesting rig - i'd have to see it in person and go through what's been done and what hasn't. i see some rust on the front near the badges - if it's through the body i dont think it's worth that much, but otoh if it's surface only and all the running gear, mechanicals, etc have all been...
the steel military wheels are definitely beastly - when mine arrived i went to grab one off the pallet to put it in my jeep and nearly pulled my arms out of their sockets :)
someday...assuming i actually get this rig on the road and useful ... i'd like to see about upgrading my brakes and maybe...
that's a good option ^
another thought/idea - the air ride truck seats in my rig/big rigs use a 'two belt' system. theres a frame bolted to the floor, then the seat is bolted to the frame. there is a short section of seatbelt that bolts between the floor frame and the seat frame that anchors...
10r22.5 commercial tires - these only have about 100 miles on them
I had put them on my c4500 kodiak but they're too wide for this truck because of the airbags i have on the rear and the way the alcoa wheels fit - so now i'm on 20" singles
*** they are about 40.5" tall ***
4 - Hankook...
no way - if you need to get out of trouble (or get someone else out) the last thing you want is one breaking loose .... we all know the power of things flying around when a cable breaks etc. good idea to make sure they're fully capable - now you just need to borrow a crane and see if you can...
yeah the video on IG is pretty amazing how easy it went through it! I've been going through cut off wheels on my rig...probably went through about 25 so far but they work. sawzall and i got a handheld metal circular saw too but wouldn't want to use any of them on 1" thick. you can probably...
all those years of riding unsecured in a 70's era station wagon facing backwards..... who knew :)
yeah, progress.... I suppose ... people ride motorcycles with the kiddos and some judge them as irresponsible (which may be true) but one of my earliest memories is my Uncle taking me on a minibike...
hadn't thought of that - definitely a consideration though, i have no idea on my rig how long/rpm's etc it would take to recharge the batteries. i don't 'intend' to use a ton of house battery power, and i also don't have any idea what the 'parasitic' loss of the 2nd alt would be on the engine...
i think i'd take it off - most of the stuff i'd use on my truck isn't when the engine is running anyway, and the drag of the extra alternator = ?mpg? loss?
if it's cause for concern, extra repairs, etc then i don't think it's worth having imo
wow selling already!? OP... you may want to talk to him about his rig - it has a lot of what you'd want to fulfill your goals and is road tested and family approved!
not sure if water gets the back window or how the gasket/3rd brake light is back there.... but my 96 ram's back window had a tiny leak that i didn't realize until a hurricane hit (NC) = musty/moldy smell...then saw a dark area along the rocker panel = soaked carpet... pulled the seats out and...
