    2003 Montero LTD advice

The service manual claims you can reuse a tensioner but anyone who knows Mitsus knows not to do that. I guess when its just a used car even the dealer will cut corners.

    2003 Montero LTD advice

I'm at the other end, i bought my 1 owner '05 for 10k last summer from a Mitsubishi dealer. They did all new brakes, tires, exhaust manifolds (commonly cracked), supposedly did a bunch of other maintenance to it but they reused the tensioner when they did the timing so i had to replace that...

    The old 1999 build thread

Finally started on the kickouts for my sliders, a whole bunch of years later. I always intended to have tubing with a rear kickout to match the curvature of the body. A little less aggressive than the ones on my old Mighty Max. Just need to fab up the little legs for the insides and I can weld...

Welcome! Nice looking truck, looks like it has lift already or just tiny tires. How big of tires are you wanting?

Didn't California allow some kind of racket where you can pay a third party to "pass" your vehicle?

Yes! Some of the 94's have an odd pinion flange and you will need the normal style to make it work with your driveshaft. Welcome

    My 1999 Montero mostly-adventure-but-build-when-necessary Thread

Ernest and I almost went out there yesterday but we went over to the Bulldog recreation area instead. I just needed to shake down new suspension and se how things worked.

Gen 2 & 2.5 owners..what your milage and long term ownership reviews.

225k miles and 13 years, mostly daily driven, been through some trails, water, rocks, snow and it's still the most reliable thing I've owned. Drives quiet, straight and the biggest failure I've had was the heater core started leaking a few years ago.

    Gen 2 Idler arm rebuild/upgrade

I'd like to add that there is a serviceable aftermarket Idler arm, it has an actual spring under the cap. I don't recommend using this part but it has been done, things didn't go together smoothly though. Here it is.

Gen 3 Steering Gear Bellows Replacement and Question for Gurus

Do not pack the boot with grease! If you have "grease" in the original it means you have a leaky steering rack. Grease the joint in there and install the new boot.

EyeInTheSky's Gen 3 Budget Build Thread

I'm not offering a diagnosis however... On the idea of coil packs, If the boot(s) (the ones under the coil pack) are bad weird problems will happen. I had a Montero that would run fantastic until about 45min of driving or less with "spirited" use. Shut it off, wait 30min and it was like new...

    The old 1999 build thread

But the truck without any sway bars is not sketchy at all in my opinion, it was really really bad before with worn out everything, bent draglink, bent UCA, bad tires. Feels like a brand new machine now, it's unreal.
