Daily Diesel - 1992 JDM Strada Quad Cab (resto-mod)

Looking great Phil! how do you like the Recaro seats on long trips? My friend offered me a set for my '99 but I hear they are uncomfortable, I'll install them anyway but I was just curious.

Slightly stiff gear shift lever on my Gen 3.5

Also the bushings in the shifter itself can wear out and cause binding issues.

Your truck is also a Gen 2?

    Gen 2.5 3.8 Swap

Beautiful truck by the way. Short bed v6 trucks were the coolest, that's the only Mitsu truck I haven't owned but have always wanted. Seems like the V6 trucks were a little taller than the others, did they mount the body a little higher like they did with the Gen 2 when they went to the...

The Gen 3 3.8 has the variable intake, they are kind of tall though.

    Gen 2.5 3.8 Swap

Ah, I thought you meant space wise. My 3.5 just passed 60k miles so if I swap it out it will be in favor of power, I wouldn't hesitate to swap a 3.8 non MIVEC if I needed an engine. For my truck 10 horsepower isn't enough to justify buying a normal 3.8 to install. Stoked to see what you come up...

    Gen 2.5 3.8 Swap

The Mighty Max IFS is a little tighter to the engine than in a Montero for sure, the hood is lower and they are quite a bit narrower (Especially on the Gen 1). I had a 3VZE-FE in my '82 Mighty Max, very tight fit. That sums it up, the only difference is that the 1UZ has a massive amount of...

    Gen 2.5 3.8 Swap

Really digging this thread, I had given up on the idea of a MIVEC swap for my truck and started heading down the 1UZ path. I'd much rather have a Mitsu motor and a V6 at that, for me the electrical side is the difficult end of a swap. Best of luck to you guys. I really hate having a bunch of...

    Gen 2.5 3.8 Swap

I'd probably run a 3.8 MIVEC if it left most of my original harness intact, kind of at the point of needing to rewire and seriously modify electronics I'd rather swap the 1UZ. The standard 3.8 I still think would be plug and play with a tune afterward but for 10 extra horse power I think it's...

    Gen 2.5 3.8 Swap

Good to know, so what makes these ECU's reflashable vs the previous Gens without the EEPROM memory chip? It's really good to have some car guys on the forum finally, the car forums have a bunch of good tech on the engine and electronics side but those threads are pretty rough after about 3 pages...

    Gen 2.5 3.8 Swap

Here's the memory chip i am referring to, this is from a 1999. What do you think? If the 3.8 can run perfectly on our stock management we would have a little more engine options that don't require real swap work.

    Gen 2.5 3.8 Swap

So as you know the 1998 Pajero Evolution had MIVEC and 1998 was kind of the first year to use blackbox ECU, I'm wondering if MMC used the more standardized ECU and then used different programs for the different cars or Engine options. From a manufacturing standpoint it makes sense, It would be...

    Gen 2.5 3.8 Swap

What are you using to actuate the MIVEC? I was thinking about running the 3.8 with a VTEC controller. There's a guy here in Az who allegedly helped with the 3G eclipse MIVEC swap that is well documented online.

Front drive axles compatibility gen 1 gen2

Eh, kind of. Tha joints are labled and interchange with ones that have the same numbers. CV100 for CV 100 and 95 for 95 and so on. The lengths are different between Gen 1 and 2, so run the longer ones with full Gen 2 IFS.

    Gen 2.5 3.8 Swap

The ECU is a minor issue with swapping a 3.8, considering the fuel maps exist already and the ECU is EEPROM. Unlike Franks supercharger install or say MIVEC install.

Front drive axles compatibility gen 1 gen2

Gen 1's are low pinion and Gen 2's are high pinion. Gen 1 4 cylinders and early Gen 2's with 12v 3.0 have 7.25" front axle (these are 3/4" shorter in length) and the rest are the 8" axle. Yes they swap around but you'll need to figure out the correct front driveshaft for your combo and double...
