A trailer for the short bus

Some beautiful work man!!!!!! Love the yellow!!! Just picked up a new Trek Super Fly SL 9.7 FS with all XTR, Chris King hubs/wheels built by Mike Curiak. Have not looked at my trailer since I got it. Will be in Moab after the Summit I think, maybe you can drag that bad boy out there...

    FM82 Offroad Teardrop Build

Man SoCal sucks, no rain 80 degrees, riding my bike today. Now add, illegal aliens, pot holes, gang bangers and idiots on the freeway, give me good old Omaha Nebraska!!!! Just joking, moved from that frozen wind hole 50 years ago. Here till I die I am sure. Would love to be in Utah, I truly...

torsion axle and tires go on tommorrow

Way too much axle for the weight of the trailer. Unless you plan to carry 2500 pounds around in it. You maybe able to control the bounce with tire pressure.

    FM82 Offroad Teardrop Build

Like I said I have not used it, but it should work, as it is not a moving part. Much easier than trying to weld all those cuts!!!! I would try it if I was in that situation. But like I said, I only saw one break, it was just too ugly for commercial use. Had to buy a bender. Wish I still had...

    LED METER INSTALL

Morningstar is a main stay in solar power, have been around a long time. Verizon uses them in their solar cell sites, SoCal Edison uses them in some of theirs, of course the larger industrial type. Outback makes a quality controller too, but is just too large for trailer application. I am...

    LED METER INSTALL

I use a Morningstar 15 amp digital display. It controls my battery charge, tells me the usage/draw and the state of the battery. Runs about 120 bucks on line. But it needs to be inside. It runs continuously, but you can shut the load off. Mine has been in the garage now for over 3 months...

    low budget trailer build

I was wondering if you were making a land base air craft carrier there for a minute. You have done a great job, the trailer looks very useable. You might try removing a leaf on the springs and lowering the tire pressure. I run mine at 20 on the freeway and have no problems.

What do you think of this thing?

If that is a fiberglass unit, grab it and smile all the way to the bank, if it is solid. These make great trailers, and are strong enough to do any trailer you might try to take it on. This is a great base. If it is steel, still a great base, but pretty heavy, but the possibilities are...

    FM82 Offroad Teardrop Build

Many years ago, when I bought ProTrac trailers, they were wood wall off road trailers. I converted to steel and had to make sharper bends to hold to the ProTrac lines. I ended up doing the first 15-20 trailers exactly like that. I had one break that I know of, but we just tacked it again...

torsion axle and tires go on tommorrow

How much does the trailer weigh and what weight axle are you using? Timbren or Dexter/Alko

    FM82 Offroad Teardrop Build

Good work sir, but I would still weld an L to connect both ends. Vibration can crack them, not likely but have seen it happen. Making good progress, and your own design = pride and confidence.

    FM82 Offroad Teardrop Build

If all else fails, you can lay the metal flat, and make cuts at about 3/4 inch and slowly bend to what you want. then make a L under it to solidfy it. tack weld each cut. That area is normaly not under stress. I still think a dune buggy shop should have the bender, you may have to by the dye...

Scott B.'s Little Guy Offroad Teardrop Build

I may have gotten carried away, but most on here do not really use their TD trailers as expedition units. Most look for base camps it seems. Some of the box trailer guys drag theirs places, that most would not drag a TD. Smaller footprint makes it easier. I have seen a couple of the LG's on...

Scott B.'s Little Guy Offroad Teardrop Build

Scott, would be honored to make the run with you guys. By then, you will have that thing set up like the Hilton. Mine continuous to grow. I may make this April run, not sure. I think for the average guy, the LG set up is a very good deal. Looks good, great people to work with, and it is...

    FM82 Offroad Teardrop Build

My guess is between 1600 and 2000. But that is not too heavy if the trailer is balanced. But 1000 pounds of tongue weight is a problem for a single axle. Most seem to build away with the tongue getting things added. Need to counter balance the tongue. if you are 60 40 on the frame, the...
