Frame Strength, Who to Believe! The RV Sales Guy or the New Truck Dealer? Maybe Neither?

This was posted recently on the “Overlandy Meme Thread“. Having seen a video of his in the past and thinking it was a well-built Tundra, I found these two videos about how this happened that are quite detailed and pretty interesting as to the cause and results of the event (along with being...

Realistic Capacity Margin for DOY LiFePo4 Setup?

FWIW, I ran my ARB 50 qt fridge last summer for 5 days/4 nights in 70 to 85° daytime temps along with charging multiple devices, but no laptop, other 12v draws for lights, a heating pad and some low draw inverter use at one point. We ran our Maxxair fan often and all night on low. My fridge...

Insulating an aluminum camper shell / wedge tent camper.

Yeah, think it’s exaggerated too. However, it works really well, largely because I completely covered my aluminum frame members and because there’s an air gap to the skin of the camper so the radiant barrier is effective. There’s also coroplast paneling covering it and the air channels in that...

Insulating an aluminum camper shell / wedge tent camper.

Here’s a light weight, good insulation I used and am very happy with after 2 years. Way better than Reflectix, but similar form factor.

    Quality USB-C Panel Mount?

I largely built my camper electrics with their stuff augmented here and there with good quality bits from Amazon. I also used them to make custom cables before I bought all the campers and tools needed to do my own. Will Prowse’s website https://www.mobile-solarpower.com/ also has really good...

If you want a permanent install of the plate, you could VHB it AND add 2 -3 screws and Sikaflex caulk the edges. If you really want to 110% it, could add Eterna Bond tape on top of the plate, but you’ll likely never get it off, at least without a ton of work.

    Minimalist refrigerator?

I believe that Dometic makes a drawer fridge. Mike, the founder of Overland Bound, put one in a drawer system in his 80. Can see on YouTube.

    Post up your drawer/storage system

You can make very durable drawers that weigh next to nothing out of coroplast (plastic corrugated cardboard, essentially). Here’s how it worked for my build:

I’ve been noodling on this for a while; have the 10” cabover so more wind resistance. Haven’t come to a conclusion yet, though. The whole topic has been discussed well in this Wander the West thread, though not for Ovrlnds specifically...

Big Booty Judy - 2014 DC Tundra Build w OVRLND Camper

LOL, big fail! After looking at a bunch on Amazon, I got this due to the three heat settings. wish it was a bit larger, but it’s been good. Works best under other covers/bag. https://www.etrailer.com/12V-Power-Accessories/Performance-Tool/PT37ZR.html You might need less aggressive tires? I’m...

Big Booty Judy - 2014 DC Tundra Build w OVRLND Camper

Congrats on the maiden voyage! Mid 20°s is damn cold for our campers, especially with the roof insulation still to go. Our coldest night so far has been 35ish. With roof insulation, the majority of the frame covered, the thermal pack on and no heat we were in the mid 40s in the morning. We...

Does Anyone Actually Use Their House Water for Drinking?

Glad to hear its better than I've been led to believe. I still will not drink any wild water without treatment. Just not worth it to me. You are so right-on re:mining impacts. Last summer we camped upstream from an old gold mining town in NE Nevada. Beautiful stream. Drove out through the town...
