Yeah I did, how ironic that it was in the registration pack that I got JUST AFTER it sheared off exactly as descirbed in the article. I plan to get a new one and use the repaired one as a back up after I reinforce that spot.

    73' Series III 109"

Conrgats! Welcome the insanity of a series! Post some pictures when you can and don't get in a hurry, enjoy the build and getting to know her. They are a fun beast to wrench upon and very simple mechanically, often the engineering will leave you wondering but at least you can get to it with...

    Banned land rover 130

I think the bigger issue for the 130 (and 90, 110) is that cost to make it DOT compliant vs potential sales. Although this sight is a fan base for basic, highly functional trucks, the overal market is not so the bean counters do not see a profit ROI to bring them in. Add the fluctuation in...

    Ironman Nitro shocks-how are they?

I just won a raffle for a Camel 4x4 gift cert. The DI will be getting some HD springs soon and I need shocks. I was thinking the gift cert would be good to use on these shocks but I want to find out how they are first. I'm not familiar with the brand like I am Bilstien or OME.

About 4hr 30min to get home-she was running strong and my ears are still ringing a bit-need to remember ear plugs next time. I felt OK on the 4 lanes and wanted to limit the shifting so I took those roads home instead of the rural 2 lanes. I was about to keep up and wasn't being blown off the...

Not only did it hold up but the shift pattern is much better! Not sure why as you welded it back in the same place-guess I was having a lot of flex before it sheared. Good to see you here!

Great one-will post some pics soon. The IIa in stock trim was a mule on the trail right up to the point when the shifter sheared off. Apparently a known issue on the IIa, would have rather not found that out on the trail but 3-Lo got me back to the end of the trail-maybe a little faster than I...

Series 3 "barn find", Savannah GA

I agree, looks like a very late IIa. Your looking at a new chassis so about $2K right off but the bulk of the rest is aluminum and can bolt onto the new frame. Drivetrain is the other big ?? and the other area of possible high expense. If you could get it for $500 or less and are up for it then...

    73' Series III 109"

A 73 would have a serial number, VIN's started later so that isn't a red flag. You can go to www.lrfaq.org with the serial number to see if it's within the correct range of a 73 and get more details for that model. $4,500 isn't a bad price, sorry if I wasn't clear, there are just a couple...

    73' Series III 109"

Which is why I mentioned worst case situation. I was trying to give him a range to work from and maybe interject a few thoughts to help him evaluate the truck.

    73' Series III 109"

Have you taken a small hammer or large screwdriver to the rust areas? If the info is from the seller that maybe optomistic as the frames rust from the inside out mostly. If the tranny is gone I'm thinking the engine isn't far behind and maybe running to get it sold, the trannys are stout and...

    Uwharrie Safari

The one area that could get you (IMHO) Vig, is if the Rangers get asked to stay home and the facilities get closed because they won't be around to manage them. I think you could still camp and ride the trails, etc but having a shower and potty might be in question. Tough call to make. Have you...

    Uwharrie Safari

I guess they could close gates and block entry but Uwharrie is wide open and doens't have a specifc entry point/ranger station so ???? The guy organizing the Safari talked with the Rangers about the event and closure and they assured him they will be open, don't know if this applies to next...

Best way to align & hang multiple frames?

I've got a lazer level I picked up on sale at Lowes, attact it to the first nail and shoot the beam along eachside-mark your other locations. You'll still need to measure the stretch of the wire but it helps a lot alignement. Looks good in the pics!

So what's the sticker on these J8's?

The unassembled part seems to be the loop hole to even sell this in USA. It will be titled as a component or "kit car" so you get a rolling chassis and drivetrain and everything else needed to be a J8-but you or the shop you choose does the final assembly. AEV has shops listed that will do the...

Why I love my Land Rover

My 94 isn't quite there yet but it's on the way however I must share that driving a series is even better. The honest simplicity of it-all metal, no frills, all driver ,no electric aides. It's stiff, loud, crude ,slow, hot (unless it's winter then cold), drafty and I could go on but despite it...

Who else will be watching "From the Edge?"

Did anyone else think the wading in water with a fully extended gitzo over his shoulder but without a camera in sight was a little cheesy?
