Well time for another long overdue update, this time I have a good excuse though :) My wife and I had out first child, a healthy baby boy named Ethan. I took a month off of work, and I've managed to sneak some garage time in when the wife and baby are napping throughout the day. I finished...

Dang, I really like your build. I have a huge soft spot for FJ55's, I really would like to build one some day. The size of the body didnt really fit with what I want my truck to do but they are cool as all heck.

I obviously don't have any long term feedback, but lizardskin cures rock hard when compared to most bedliner type coatings. I will be doing bedliner on the inside of the cab as well. Hoping the combination of both helps with NVH in this old truck. I'm going to spray a top coat on the...

Thanks all, the comments and encouragement are good motivation to keep going. This is really my first project of this magnitude, and as to fab skills well pretty much everything has been learned during the course of working on this truck, other then a set of rock sliders I built for my old T100...

Not worried about it, I convinced myself the welds are structurally OK, even if not pretty - and I think I can be my harshest critic with this stuff. Main goal here was to weld up everything that will be hard to get to when the body is back on the frame. I have some more welding to go back and...

Well, bit of a break in the action while we replaced all of the flooring in our house, but I'm back to work now. I finally got a solid day in the garage yesterday, it was one of those where nothing really looks different at the end of the day but my arms and back are telling me work got done :)...

Not sure what you're wanting to do. You can't make the slide out part wider than the wheel wells - so to me it makes sense to have 'edges' to the platform to keep stuff in place. I don't think $1k is bad considering what's involved, but sure you CAN make something yourself cheaper. The idea...

Seen www.bedslide.com? I've checked them out, they aren't full extension but close enough. They don't use typical drawer slides, but rather they use a pair of rollers fixed to the back of the bed, and rollers that ride in a C channel fixed to the platform at the front of the bed. IMO they eat up...

Yup, I'm sure that's exactly what Goose Gear uses. From the pictures i've seen they're using the friction fit connectors (maybe with a screw run through for good measure) and the flanged tubes: Link to all of the components: http://www.mcmaster.com/#friction-grip-structural-framing/=wr2yh1 I've...

I've thought about it, few things keeping me from trying: - I don't think I can contain the mess enough not to affect the neighbors, whose driveway is separated from mine only by a low block wall. Yay tract housing! - I don't think my compressor would like running a large enough blaster setup to...

    Cooler SIZE survey

Got the cooler yesterday, running a very important scientific test today ... How well will it keep a couple of 12 packs cold (new Belgium and Firestone assortments, if you must know). Pre cooled the cooler with some frozen water bottles, then filled to the brim with beer and ice. Will post my...

Is the Toyota Land Cruiser based on the Tundra or Tacoma?

My understanding is the current tacoma/4runner/FJ Cruiser are all based off the Land Cruiser Prado platform. Current land cruiser and tundra/sequoia share some drivetrain, not sure what similarities there are chassis wise.

Hmm good find, it looks like a nice Yeti/Engel/Pelican competitor for a hundred $ less. I wound up ordering the 65 quart Yeti in expedition blue. Oh darn that was supposed to be white, oh well I won't be in the cool club now :) Planning to put it to the test this weekend, I'll post up my...

A friend of mine built a fulcrum device to lift each corner of the truck using a beam torque wrench, that's what I'll use to get more accurate corner weights. If you have a spring of known rate (easy to calculate based off a few measurements) you can also measure how much compression you get...

OK, this is all based on some educated guesses, but here goes: Assumed Scout weight 4500 lbs, assuming 65% of the weight on the front axle. Using 350 lbs for the front axle, 250 for the rear, and ~80 lbs per wheel/tire combo, the front corner sprung weight is 1207.5 lbs, rear is 582.5 lbs. I...

    Cooler SIZE survey

Thanks for all the feedback so far, interesting to see how people use them. I checked and my current cooler is a 48 quart, I don't see going smaller than that. Guessing I will end up with the 50 or 65 quart. I can also see getting a small one for day trips. Chris, I get what you're saying. Ive...
