DC to DC Laptop & Phone Chargers

I'm in the same boat as you, I really don't want to go DC->AC->DC for charging, so I have 12v chargers for everything (cameras, laptop, batteries, etc.) For my mac book air, I got this GPK Car Charger for Laptops and I'm very happy with it. The power brick is kind of large, but it's also...

tire weight with 321 gear ratio?

If you never offroad it, why are you going with 35s? It will drive way nicer with 33s, and you'll get better mileage to boot! -Dan

    DIY Fridge

Speaking from years of using TECs on CPUs, it's very possible to have the hot side near 100C and the cold side will form ice. It's really only a question of how effectively you can cool the hot side. And they draw a lot of current. -Dan

JK tire carriers- Tera-flex vs AEV?

I think if you're only running the spare and maybe a hi-lift, the TerraFlex solution works. If you want to run spare + hi-lift + shovel + maxtraxx + 10 gal fuel caddy, I think the AEV is the clear choice, because it's designed from the ground up to handle all of that weight. My AEV has been...

Next Gen Wrangler will have diesel, hybrid and pickup

Color be purple, it looks like it's actually been confirmed in the business plan update http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2016/01/the-next-gen-jeep-wrangler-will-have-diesel-hybrid-and-pickup-truck-variants.html I do note it doesn't explicitly state the diesel or hybrid will be available in...

Making a JKU fun in the Highway (speed) parts of an Expedition?

Tons of people say the AEV 2.5" and 3.5" lifts with the geometry correction brackets wind up with better on highway manners than stock. -Dan

What did you do to your Expo Jeep today?

Keep your eyes on the MEC gear swap page. My buddy got a -40C North Face bag for $200, it had been used once. -Dan

BFG MT's in snow and ice

I'm driving cross-Canada now on BFG MTs and I agree with this. Deep snow they are awesome. Hard pack/ice they are not good. As long as I'm careful it will be fine, but I certainly wouldn't want to live an entire winter with them -Dan

    Bucher Duro. 6x6 for sale.

Like all foreigners do - it must have been registered in another country, and someone drove (or shipped) it in as a tourist, driving on the foreign plates. It's perfectly legal and simple to do. Obviously they just didn't take it back out when they were supposed to. It's the getting the US...

Two year circumnaviagtion of Africa in my 2007 JKUR - The Road Chose Me

My understanding is the Rubicon has the highest GVWR of any JK. I'm not at mine right now, but I know I've looked at the door plate in the past and it's higher than a non-rubi JK. -Dan

Two year circumnaviagtion of Africa in my 2007 JKUR - The Road Chose Me

I want a Rubi primarily for the higher payload that comes with the front D44, the lockers, and the 4.10s - all things that would be very expensive to add to a sport/sahara I almost bought a 2012 Rubi, but I don't have enough money anymore, so I'll be getting an older one - likely 2007-20010 or...

Two year circumnaviagtion of Africa in my 2007 JKUR - The Road Chose Me

Thank you for the very kind offer. I will for sure look you up when the tie comes, I am immensely looking forward to Uganda. I took a bone stock Jeep for Alaska->Argentina and it never let me down once. It was the perfect vehicle for the job. Why I didn't just do that again is something I've...

2007 Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon 3.0 Mercedes Turbo Diesel - Engine damage - $15k obo

I personally put the return lines on the injectors, and it appears I didn't push one on completely onto the little barb, so the damage is my fault. There is no way the conversion warranty should cover this, because I did it myself. I feel like an idiot for doing it, but it is what it is...

Two year circumnaviagtion of Africa in my 2007 JKUR - The Road Chose Me

It was a one-off issue unrelated to the swap. One of the diesel return lines, a small rubber hose, came off an injector, causing the diesel leak. I assume it simply wasn't pushed entirely onto the little barb - I did it myself, which has nothing to do with the swap. Also because I did it...
