    BFG Mud-Terrain 255/75r17 vs. BFG KO2 All-Terrain 34x10.5r17 Comparison

I did a lot of reading and research into the ST Maxx. They sure look like a good tire, though I don't feel like they've been around long enough, or put to the test in the same way BFG KOs have been. For me the decision came down to relative newcomer Vs. tried and tested. -Dan

Two year circumnaviagtion of Africa in my 2007 JKUR - The Road Chose Me

There are a lot of things I'm not carrying spares of - starter, alternator, driveshafts, bearings, etc. etc. If any of those fail, I'll be waiting around and that will be part of the trip, it's not a big deal. Same goes if I somehow manage to destroy a tire or two. -Dan

Two year circumnaviagtion of Africa in my 2007 JKUR - The Road Chose Me

I have some contacts in SA who I'm sure would buy a couple on my credit card and send them to me, if it comes to that. Are you thinking about it because 17s are less common? -Dan

    BFG Mud-Terrain 255/75r17 vs. BFG KO2 All-Terrain 34x10.5r17 Comparison

I did my best to measure them, and from what I could see, they actually have a tiny bit (less than 1/2") more offset than my OEM Rubicon rims. So in theory, you can run ever so slightly wider tires (which I am) It's known you can't run 12.5" tires on these rims without spacers, which plenty of...

    BFG Mud-Terrain 255/75r17 vs. BFG KO2 All-Terrain 34x10.5r17 Comparison

Hi All, I spent a lot of time thinking about and researching wheel and tire choice for my upcoming Africa trip. When BFG came out with the KO2 All-Terrain in 34x10.5r17 I was extremely interested. I've always figured a slightly taller, but still skinny tire makes the most sense for long-term...

Two year circumnaviagtion of Africa in my 2007 JKUR - The Road Chose Me

Hi All, I spent a lot of time thinking about and researching wheel and tire choice for the trip. I've written up a piece explaining all my thinking, and what I'm running. I've also compared the stock Rubicon BFG Mud-Terrain in 255/75r17 to the BFG KO2 All-Terrain in 34x10.5r17 Read the...

Hi all, I had an awesome time at EJS in Moab, it really is a Jeep addicts dream. I'm in Michigan now, getting closer to the coast to ship the Jeep over the Atlantic. Living in the Jeep for a few weeks has promoted me to make all kinds of minor tweaks and adjustments for living convenience...

1" wheel spacers for JK Wrangler

Hi All, I have a set of 4 wheel spacers for the JK Wrangler. They measure exactly 1" thick. These were used on the Overland JK to run 35x12.5 tires on the Mopar Winter Wheels. They've been sitting outside so have a tiny bit of corrosion on one outside surface. You can see a photo of the...

What vehicles make the best Expedition platforms?

I'm not at all defending Toyota, but I think you're being unfair. They drove those extremely overloaded vehicles 10k miles+ and the only problem was a couple of sheared lug studs. Not bad I say. Also note the NAPA in Dawson City is a very small shop. They don't stock all that much for...

    water storage under vehicle

I spent at least 100 hours searching every single tank company online, and it turns out the marine industry has the widest options. I ended up getting mine from http://greatlakesskipper.com It was end of life, so it was very cheap (I think $80 shipped). A custom tank would have fit the space...

HOW-TO: DIY JK Wrangler Dual Isolated Batteries

On my system they are only joined when the engine is running - when the starter is firing they are not joined, because if the house battery is drained, that would put a big drain on the starter battery, which then might not have enough to start the engine. I have no way to use both batteries...

HOW-TO: DIY JK Wrangler Dual Isolated Batteries

It's up to you. Do you want the ability to manually control if and when the batteries are joined together? If yes, install the switch as the directions say. If no, don't install the switch like me. I personally decided it was another point of failure, including operator error (i.e. I flip...

HOW-TO: DIY JK Wrangler Dual Isolated Batteries

Hi John, I decided not to use the switch at all, I wanted everything to be fully automatic. Just don't wire in the switch at all. Follow the directions as above - put the two big lugs on the solenoid to each positive of the two batteries. Join the two negatives directly together. One of the...
