My guess is that the auto focus assist beam is the red bleed in the corner. That beam is usually to the right of the lens so the red glow would show up in that corner.

Cool shot Mike! I saw the F6 but it doesn't have a built in vert grip, you can get a vert grip-batt pack but you can do that with a F100 as well and pay less. I was looking at the F5 listing you posted and saw that big, clear view finder, I've almost forgot how nice those are.
